Here's the new floor. We originally wanted it laid on the diagonal, but somehw that wasn't transferred in the estimate and specs. It would have required ordering about 10% more tile because of the waste, and the installation company was going to charge $199 per square foot more to install it that way! Well, since the installation date was set to coincide with my week off from school, we didn't have much choice.
Yes, it was a Homo Depot job. However, I got rid of the original "specialist" that set up the measure and estimate, and dealt directly with the expeditor (er??). There were a few issues, but nothing earth shattering, and in the end, we didn't get charged for adding on the cove base moulding and they're giving us a $100 refund besides, for any inconvenience. Considering the boiler removal paid for the floor to begin with, we're OK with it.
Our first choice for the colored squares was a bright turquoise, but that color was discontinued, so they couldn't guarantee they could get it. We went opposite the yellow into the purple field ("pomegranite") to compliment the yellow, and used a confetti-like tile as the off-set.
Definitely looks better than the beige sheet vinyl!!
