Hello Philip and welcome to AW.org!

I am in the USA and am not really familiar with the machines you are asking about, but if you try searching on Youtube there are MANY washer videos on there. I would think you should be able to find video of the machines you are looking for.

The link below is for a video on Youtube and while it's not the washers you are looking for, it is a video that Robert, the creator and webmaster of AW.org, made. I'm sure you will enjoy it!

Kevin

Servis SpinCare Drum

In 1981 Servis UK, the only totally British Washing Machine manufacturer produced another unique first....the Servis spin care drum, this machine was developed extensively with proctor & Gamble and a new version of ariel Powder was introduced as well...

The SpinCare Drum uses vanes rather like a spin dryer or a solid tub top loader, these are placed at the back & front of the drum....take a look, you can see the drum baffle & the slatted vanes..

Interesting. That construction is new for me. Did they claim any advantages over the more common perforated drum design?

Hey Phil, welcome!!Let me ask, what kind of reaction are you getting from your parent(s)?Are they supportive or do they see your interest in washing machines and dryers a sort of "growing up period"in your youth?

Best of life to you!

Aloha!

welcome

Hi Phil,
I to have joined up this weekend, though I have been enjoying the forum for a while now and have met some great friends. You have a great taste in washing machines, and in time hopefully can enjoy useing and restoring some of your favourite machines. Beware one minute you are just yearning for a particular washer to come your way, the next you are wondering just how you've got so many and where you can store a few more.

There is a weath of knowledge and literature amongst us all so ask away,

Mathew

Drums

Hi Theo

The SpinCare idea was that because the water didnt exit the drum as fast as loads of holes (re V-Zug v Miele honeycombe) that the washing was cushioned, and a more vigerous wash could be done on low level fill for cottons and a more delicate wash could be obtained for woollens / delicates as more water could cushion the clothes..all with less water than what was around at the time!! it was also thought to be gentler on the fabrics when spinning!!

Morning Paul

It is a lovely set, I first saw one at my Aunts, when nearly everyone else in the family had Servis MK2 twinnys, when you think Servis managed to make this still a 9lb load in 22 inches when other where 24 / 27 inches wide...solid little machine...

We

occasionally got Servis machines in our shop back in the late '80's. They also did some interesting things with ramping up the spin speed, using a spring-tensions pulley to vary the ratio, didn't they? I am not quite sure about that, tho - long time ago and didn't see too many.
That drum design worried my boss a lot, he felt they would do the same poor job with sand as the solid tub top loaders.

How did they do with sand? I can well believe that they would have produced comparable washing results otherwise with less water and thus less energy for heating...

Oh, and, welcome, by the way. Please don't limit yourself to only the UK postings - there are a lot of interesting vintage machines. Sometimes there are even new machines which are worth noticing, every 20 years or so...like the Dyson dual-drum.

Servis

My mum had the Servis Quartz 600, the one with the spin care drum. She had nothing but trouble with the machine. She phoned up to have the machine repaired, cause it was not quite a year old, they took 2 weeks to come and fix the machine. My mum of course blasted servis. In the olden days my mum once had the Servis MK72. This was a fab machine, and loved to watch the machine have deep rinses.
