Yeah, it's a shame as this is the only online forum I know of for this community... But on the odd occasion I log on it's just full of criticism. Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion and some of those will have truly come from a bad experience with a brand... but it's not asking a lot to put that to one side and be happy for someone who's proud of a new purchase.

Ha, well yeah I went for the Quick Drive. I got a great deal, and TBH it just looked cool!

What did you think of Auto Optimal? I've found myself using Super Speed a lot

Hi Adam,
how is the Quick Drive then! I'd say I'm jealous, but for now I'm too entertained with the touch screen on mine to care (and of course, using the Gardening programme! haha)

I've used Auto Optimal a few times - I'm not too sure what it does to be honest with you, and also it doesn't seem to be as generous with the auto dispense amounts. On the other hand, I have used Super Speed and that does dispense a shed load of detergent and softener - it doesn't seem to weigh the clothes on this one, so perhaps it just puts a set amount in.

I've used Cottons (not the eco one) and the Synthetic programmes the most - they run really well, and again, dispense decent amounts of detergent and softener into the load, and the cotton one finishes with the 1600 rpm spin. Synthetic is 1200RPM

Has yours got auto dispense? I've told the machine I'm using "standard concentration" softener and set the amount to "more" and the detergent have told it that I am in a hard water area, and to dispense standard amount. Later today, I'm going to head out and get some Persil small and mighty concentrated detergent (currently got Persil Non Bio Liquid standard in there), and hopefully that'll then ensure that the Auto Optimal programme, even when it puts a small amount in, work a little better - you can't put Ariel Gel in it for example as it'll block the machine up (read this on forums)

Criticism

Just to point out that I have in the past taken Which? advice and bought their recommended best buy, Panasonic MC-E43 vacuum cleaner.

One year later, Which? reported members' problems with that appliance, which included dust getting into the motor which was "difficult to remove". Furthermore, I had actually noticed that grit removal from carpets wasn't up to the same standard as Hoover and Electrolux machines.

I take Which? advice nowadays, with a large dollop of salt. It's certainly not what it was.

Well of course... but I'm feeling a little left out now, without a 'Gardening' program of my own.

Yeah it's great! Not having owned a Samsung before I'm not sure what's changed program wise... apart from the obvious back plate and shorter wash times.

The rinses are quick too, about 35 mins on Cotton for the rinses and final spin. Total time is 1:04 for 40oC and 1:21 for 60oC with a full load. About 10 - 15 less for a half load.

Weirdly Synthetics doesn't use the back plate but spins at 1200 rpm for the interm spins and 1400 (the machines max) on the Final spin. It's almost as if Cottons should really be labelled "Quick Drive" and Synths should be labelled "Traditional"

I went for the lower end model so doesn't have Auto Dispense or the Auto programme but was curious to see what they do.

Yeah I reckon Persil S&M will work well in there.

Not a big fan of the add door... blocks the view of the wash and seems to need a regular wipe over. Have you used yours much?

yeah, I must have done around 12 loads so far in it - from wool, to bedding, to towels. Interestingly, the bedding cycle only heats to 40*c Max and has an 800RPM spin - so I won't be using that one.

The cotton eco cycle is 4hrs59mins long - used that overnight last night. I'm not a massive eco warrior NOR do I have the time to wait nearly 5 hrs for a cycle to complete so I will only use that when I go out for the day, etc.

The auto dispense feature is pretty good, once you have figured out how it works - the washer senses the weight for around two mins before the cycle starts, then at fast distribution speed it showers water in from a jet above the door, and stops. Then the display changes to say its dispensing detergent - this ranges from a few seconds up to around 15 seconds at the most (thats what I've seen so far). The same happens for softener.

Got to admit...the add door feels more gimmicky to me than my gardening programme!

Yeah I was also disappointed with the Bedding program only going up to 40oC.

I have seen they are about to release a bunch of new Quick Drive models with Steam programmes... One programme is a take on the Hygiene programme you've got... and the other is the existing Bedding cycle with Steam.

It's supposed to kill/remove 99.9% of allergens and bacteria so I'd feel a little more rest assured using that version... but hopefully they've bumped it up to 60oC also!

Bedding cycle

I've always taken that as another mislabeling and assumed it was more of a "Big Item" cycle for more delicate sofa blankets and such.

I for my part do not really teust steam cycles for disinfection, especially with bulky items.
Non of my duvets or pillows will ever see less then 60C and 3 rinses
Neither will my bedding or my towels.
