New Top Load Speed Queen
Very nice, We want to hear all about how you like it and how it differs from the US versions.
I would assume that it drains before spinning, and I am wondering about spin speeds, water consumption and wash water temperatures.
Looks like they have installed an interesting lid lock on it.

Can't believe how quick loads take to wash, and how much washing they hold. The lid lock comes on as soon as start is pressed, you can press un lock lid, and it will open to add more clothes.
Not sure if it does the spin drain, will be doing more washing at weekend. I did hear a spray rinse and spin, then a deep rinse.
Heard so much about Speed Queen machines and only got it today, so time will tell.

I wonder if it now has a Brushless motor on it now. One can safely assume with that lid lock that the entire brake assembly is gone.

@mayken4 now yes you don't have to pull to open it. Only just briefly tried machine out. I use Persil handwash / twin tub powder and love the smell of old fashioned washing.

Despite the lid lock, I'm guessing it still operates the same as Speed Queen intended with the tub brake. The only difference being that it has the addition of a lid lock to comply with the rule designed with unbraked FLs in mind that the loading port must be locked while spinning.
Looking forward to hearing your full review and verdict!

Great to see it in place Paul, looking forward to reading all about it, that will speed up washday with a wizz through the spinner and into the Miele commercial, do you hear the lid lock unclick at all ?

@ChesterMike, A guy who I knew bought most of my collection including the 1509. As for the lid lock, yes you can hear it unlock after the machine has finished. It reminds me of a servis twin tub in a way, but twice as big, lol.
Still got my Electrolux professional machine and that's a great machine.
Not been doing much collecting as sadly my Mum passed away last July and not been in the frame of mind.
Hoping all is well. Have you still got the Servis MK72, my mum had this machine in the 1970s,

Is the lid lock that thing spoiling the look of the top that looks like a real lock would go thru it? American washers all lock under the lid.

@wayupnorth The lid latch reminds me of top loading washers in our launderette in the UK back in the 1970s.
@MarkyMark, yes it does the spin drain, I noticed on the first rinse giving the clothes a spray rinse, then on a its deep rinses.
I once had a Whirpool top loader, but kept on breaking down, after reading comments on here I though Speed Queen any day.
I use to have a LG turbo wash front loader and after it weighed the clothes come up with 3 hours 47 mins. Just coming to terms with its quick wash cycles.

Does it fill with tap hot water if set on hot or does it add cold water? Filling a toploader would be difficult in my apartment with the tiny combo boiler/water heater I have. It would take ages to fill the washer. Do you have a tank water heater?

It would be interesting to know the differences in this machine vs the US version. I don't see how it could not have a brake, since that is what keeps the tub from extreme indexing. I know that back in the day, when speed queen had solid tub machines with solenoids, there was no brake on the tub. The lid just stayed locked on the laundromat washers until it quit spinning. But those machines were not built in such a way that the entire transmission would spin along with the tub like the ones of today. A neutral drain would be a good thing I think, since the pump would not be attached to the motor and cause less strain on it or any chance of water leaking into it. I like the separate small motors with pumps many of the newer machines have. I would certainly like to know what the difference are in these.

When set on hot it takes hot water in only, the warm setting is mixed fill. We have a tank hot water system and always loads of hot water. With the size of the tub doing less loads. My favourite powder is Persil twin tub and handwash, love the smell.

Hi Paul. I would be very interested to know if you can easily run the machine with the lid open just by temporarily bypassing the lid switch in exactly the same way as on the US version.
I would try bypassing the lid switch using the instructions given in any of the threads such as the one I have attached. Then the machine will hopefully think that the lid is closed enabling you to try simply "closing" the lid-lock lever even though the lid is open. See if it then runs.

Did your LG turbo wash front loader take in cold water and heat it? That nearly four hours to complete a cycle is amazing. I have a US LG turbo wash front loader that takes about 45 minutes to complete a normal cycle with tap hot and an extra deep rinse added. (Two spin-spray rinses and two deep rinses.)
If I choose to heat the water to sanitize and select heavy soil with three rinses it will take a couple hours, but still nowhere near four hours. Most of that time is used heating the water. What did yours do all that time?

Yes my lg was cold fill, but all machine sold in the UK tend to be cold fill. I did have a second hand Whirpool top loader, but sadly died. Been wanting aSpeed Queen for ages.
