New Washers and Dryers for an apartment building.

I manage a condo tower in downtown vancouver. We have currently 6 Maytag washers and 6 dryers, and they have been incredibly reliable machines in the 18 years that they have been in service to the building. Recently, they have started failing, motor and timer issues, and the strata is ready to start the replacement of the old and go for new models. My issue is that Maytag is not nearly the same quality now like they used to be, I replaced one dryer three weeks ago, its already had a service call (Maytag badge, Whirlpool guts, HORRID machine, noisy, and flimsy)
Has anyone any suggestions for brands that are better made than Maytag coin op machines? We will be replacing the machines in January after the next AGM of the building.

The Best new washers and dryers money can buy, period!

You can think about Dexter and Wascomat commercial units, but they are usually found in heavy-duty laundro-mats. Speed Queens are the best residential-style machines money can buy right now.

I just installed a new "Maytag" (Whirlpool) washer for my grandparents and was appalled at how the mighty have fallen. The washer was so flimsy I would be ashamed to sell them.

Go Speed Queen and don't worry about them,

We can't knock the new machines being sold too much. I agree they're flimsy, cheap, and maybe even bad knock offs of what used to be, BUT, material prices have skyrockted, we all know what happened to transportation costs, and overhead rates in U.S. plants have gone up as well, but appliance selling prices if anything have declined in the last 20 years. That's not even adjusted for inflation. There really isn't much to do when this sort of thing happens other than take the 'beef' or substance out of the product, otherwise they're sold at a loss.

In 1986 I bought an entry level 70-series belt-drive Kenmore on special sale in July of that year for $358. It was usually on sale for $379. Today you can get a Kenmore with the same features for less than that on sale. 22.5 years later, but less money - they have to take something out somewhere!

Maytag Washers & Dryers:

Hi! Chris, are the Maytag's Coin or typical Home Laundry Machines? The reason why I'm asking, is it possible for you to either replace these Machines with some Older First-Series Right-Side Timer Maytag's, or can you check out E-Bay or Craigslist for some Coin-Laundry Machines being Sold, due to the Laundromat's Closing...

The laundry here is a coin op, even tho the strata would like to get away from charging people for the use of the machines, and that would make my life a lot easier, and the cost would be far less as well. But for the time being they will stay as coin op. We need to purchase new machines, had already suggested refurbished and that was nixed rather quickly
