Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I had to use a whirlpool (euro) recently and compared to my Miele at home it's ridiculous.

We've a pre-honeycomb miele and it manages to saturate the laundry completely within a very short time at the start of the wash. It seems to use a scoop system in the fins so water gets dumped over the clothes as the drum turns.

The whirlpool on the other hand has "bumps" rather than fins and seems to be totally ineffective at tumbling the laundry never mind saturating it.

Anyone else seen one of these whirlpools?

It's a lowish end washer-dryer.

Ahhh. That Whirlpool will be a Servis machine under the hood then, especially with what you describe with the paddles :-).

The actual European Whirlpool machines are quite good actually, especially for what they cost & what else is available on the market at the same cost.

Whirlpool eurgh!

Our last machine was a Whirlpool (servis made) washer dryer with the 4 baffles. Baffling it was too as how it could give a good wash action. It seemed to be a faster wash speed too!.
I was never impressed and as soon as the dryer unit failed once..... out came the cheque book and in came the AEG! Once you have one of these martha's, you don't go back to Whirlpool!!!

Yeah it rotates very rapidly and kinda bounces the clothes up and down. For some reason the sound is more like an agitator top loader than a front loader.

I'm not very impressed with the machine, however it was my landlady's choice, not mine..

Also, that service-whirlpool actually caused me to advise an aunt of mine not to buy a pricier whirlpool appliance. I just assumed they were all the same.

there god aweful those merloni drums. everythin just waves across the bottom of the drum & it doesnt actually lift anything. you'd be better off handwashing than using one of those machines.

Hi Guys

Just thought I would say hi as havent been on this sight for ages.Nice to see some English guys around aswell as the American ones.Decided to post on this thread as you are talking about Engish front loaders. We used to be collectors but now have kept only a few machines.I have have had many autos in the past eg Hotpoint Microtronic, Hotpoint 18580, Electra (Creda) sloping control panel,Many Hoover autos and some other makes. When I first lived on my own I had a Hoover softwave then changed to a Hoover Newwave 1400 then a Hotpoint Top loading automatic 9605 then a Servis slimline 1000, then a Miele (Gave that to my mum when her machine died)Then got my sisters old Hopoint Electronic 1000 plus 9530, then got my nans Hoover 5004 twinnie. I was never good at keeping a machine for long!!!!!!
Nice to see your Hoover logic and New wave and Servis, New wave.
We will be moving soon and so decided to leave a washer and dryer to help sell the house. We decided on Hoover as thats what we had most of. The washer was an Electron 1100 Energy control from 1985 but typically a few weeks back it packed up and so have replaced it with a new Candy machine. It was just a cheap machine but it washes really well. To get any decent results on rinsing you have to hit the "Super Rinse" button and this gives you 5 rinses with a spin inbetween each one plus a good water level. If you dont hit this you only get 2 crappy rinses.
We are taking only a few machines to the new house.
We are intending to buy a Whirlpool Top loader (Agitator type) for the new house and I will have that plus the Hoover Electronic 1100 plumbed in and also 2 dryers.
They are going to be in the garage and at last I can have a proper "Laundry Area!"

Regards
Mark

Zanussi Condenser dryer!

wish my zanussi condenser dryer was as good.
definitely Monday morning/friday night off the production line!!

It sqeaks intermittently, sometimes very loud and irritating! (just doesnt do it when the engineer is there) and when he was last here, he left the lid unhinged on one side! I have never been so disappointed with a machine even though it is excellent at drying!!!! I am now into the extended warranty but have really just given up on this machine. anyone got any ideas what to do? Zanussi were no help at all.

Hi Darren

I do miss the newwave as it was a great machine and I loved all the led's and the programme number coming up in those green lights. If I remember, didnt it go into distribution speed a few times during the wash to force the water through the clothes?
I also thought the Servis slimline was great and I loved the square door and the fact that the drum didnt have the usual holes through it.It was very unusual to see a drum which was mainly solid stainless steel. It was also great that the spin between the rinses was at full speed! I only got rid of it because I didnt really understand how washing machines worked back then and I now know all it needed was new carbon brushes!!!It would struggle turning sometimes and sometimes not at all.I though the motor was knackered!
I have got rid of a few machines like that which needed brushes and I didnt understand. The saddest one I chucked was one of the first Hotpoint microtronics which had the sloping control panel..beautiful machine!

Hi Jon!
Yes it was me who was selling the A3060 on eBay. I already had one 3060 and came across another one so I decided to sell the first one.It went to a collector so was happy it would be looked after. It is also my favourite washer and had been searching for many years to get one.My friends mum had one and also another friend so i have always had fond memories of it. I love the square door and the timer sounds and the sound of the motor especially when it does that famous slow down from 800 then builds up to 1100.Its just a very stylish and fab machine! I was lucky enough to come across the matching dryer and so now have my favourite washer and dryer.

Hi Peter. I see your only down the road!
Sorry to read about your problems with your dryer. There is nothing worse in buying a new machine and finding out its crap.I have only owned one Zanussi appliance a few years ago and it was the studioline washing machine which was the compact one.It was a good machine but I sold it with my flat when I moved up to Scotland. My nan had a Zanussi washer/dryer which she got in 1987 when she moved house and that lasted 15 years.I dont even think it was broken. She said the programme dial was sticking but I think it just needed taking out and cleaned as I suspect there was lots of dirt in there from what I could see.I didnt get a chance to look at it as she just went and got a new machine (Hotpoint autowasher 1000.

Regards to you all

By the way I do have some pictures and some vids of various machines and im trying to get a sight where I can post them all as they are to big for here.I tried putfile but everytime I go to register it cant find the page and wont let me.Any other sights you recommend?

Hi Mark,

I have to say I was very tempted to bid on your A3060 on Ebay, but alas it was too far away :-(. Although I do have relatives in Dunbar who could have possibly stored it for me, hehehe. It's good the A3060 went to another collector anyhows; I suppose there could be nothing worse than a novice buying any old washing machine, especially a collectable like that, and putting it in student accommodation! My mum also had the later version of the A3060, the A3110 from 1982 - the Electronic 1100 - which was an updated version of the A3060, but had the standard 85x60cm casing, had the same door as the Logics and Electrons, & had a door release button on the control panel instead of the silver door catch as well as a half load button. Have many childhood memories of sitting in front of both my nana's A3060 and A3110. Although I was always very careful with my nana's A3060, after I cut my hand open on the edge of the stainless steel control panel which was slightly prising off at the edges. She only replaced it because she won a WM25 almost 10 years ago now - if not nana said she'd probably still have her Hoover today! Unfortunately she has an even worse washer now than the WM25, one of those dreaded new Hotpoint's which is more or less a British made Ariston!

I always remember the timer sounds on my nana's and my mum's Hoovers - was always one click at the end of each tumble and two clicks before each tumble if I remember correctly? Also remember the great "ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" spin sound - absolute classic. The A3060 twinned with the smell Persil non bio Microsystem as my nana used to use back then coming from the washer have to be some of my best and fondest washer memories.

What other machines do you have? Personally I have a Miele W2652WPS (the best machine I've ever used), AEG Lavamat 86741 and matching Lavatherm 57560 dryer, a 1984 AEG Lavamat 660, those are all in my bedroom and my mum has in the utility room a dead Bosch washer, and a matching Bosch dryer which is great. Talking of the dead Bosch washer, we're actually going to Curry's this afternoon to check new machines out :-), and to bring this thread back to subject both I and my mum are really interested in the ZWF1437, which is the pushbutton version of Saj's Zanussi earlier in the thread.

Do you have MSN messenger at all? Most of us Brit members are all on there, often have 3 or 4 way chats :-). And in terms of videos - youtube is supposed to be a good site to upload to. But I've had problems with putfile too lately - sometimes you just have to be really patient. If you have pictures, Webshots - http://www.webshots.com, is what I find the best picture hosting site. Hope that helps!

Take care of yourself, nice to see another Brit member :-).

All the best,

Jon

Early Hotpoint Microtronic

Almost forgot...

My auntie also had one of the early Hotpoint Microtronics - had the liberator style casing, a sloped control panel & brown trims, and an 800rpm spin I think - or perhaps 1000. Quite similar control panel layout to the Servis Quartz machines, but had the LCD display with programmes 1-9 in the centre of the control panel with buttons either side, and had Economy options such as Reduced Rinses and Bio and whatnot. Great machine - unfortunately that also got replaced in 2000 I think with a Hotpoint WM62.

This talk of Hoover's makes me want my A3110 back :-(... but a Hotpoint toploader would be nice too :-).

Hi Jon

I also had a A3110! But alas the outer drum and sump bit was just to rusty for repair. When I got it the pump wasent working because it was full of rust which had broken away from the drum.Im guessing whoever had it never left the door open after it had finished to dry it out.It had a black control panel and the half load button was orange and the programme selector dial had an orange trim round it. I wasent to keen when Hoover stopped the proud square door and went onto the flush one.The 3060 I have is dated Dec 79 and the 3110 I had was dated Jan 80 believe it or not so the 3060 is one of the last produced. The clicks on the timer of the 3060 are definately noticable but I cant remember the excact sequence as havent had the 3060 on for a while as its been put back into the garage for when we move.

I do like to hear a washer working with all its clicks etc and the sound of the motor.Never like machines with induction motors as they were just to quiet!I like sitting in the living room and being able to hear the washing machine going. The new candy we had to get to sell with the house does actually have a good motor sound because it has brushes. When its had a few loads in it the sound seems to get louder.Maybe something to do with the motor being hot im not sure.Older Hotpoints also have a great motor sound which you cant mistake. I had another microtronic from the 1980s which I loved but the control panel all fell to pieces as it got very brittle. You never see one of the older Hotpoints on eBay without some of the trim broken as the plastic they used would go so brittle over age.

I dont have many machines now as we had to reduce our collection drastically for the move. There are now 4 Twin tubs,The 3060,The 6042 dryer to match and an Electron energy control dryer which im also taking with me.The electron dryer is very good for delicates as the low temp is a very low temp so great for drying jumpers.Am hoping to get a Whirlpool Agitator type top loader for the new house.

I do have Msn by the way so chats would be great!

Thanks for the info on the site for my pics and vids...I will investigate!

Mark

Ohhhh

I grew up with an A3060 which had to go in 1993 when it developed a nasty leak. Long history of machines since then as you all know. And the Zanussi has broken down for the first time today, 7 months down the line...albeit with a lot of heavy abuse!

Any more video(s)?

Hello Mike, how are you doing?

Hello...I am deaf and best friend! My name is Peter. Can you make the video about Lavamat (frontload washer) of the "LINEN" by spinning by 1800 rpm? I want to watch the video for wash, first spinning, rinse, and final spinning (1800)activity.....is that OK with you?

-- Peter (kenmorepeter5aa) ;-D

Ooooh the leccy!!

Hi Darren!

Not seen u online either! Anyhoo! Turns out the zanussi developed a problem where the power lead goes into the module which caused the machine to trip the whole house's electrics whenever it went on rinse. All sorted now, they came and put a new flex on it! I'm in my new house and now the proud owner of a Hoover Nextra! Hmmmm we shall see!
