Newer Speed Queen TW01 with issues

Just an update, it's being repaired under warranty within the week, the guy I talked to said the timers dying is common and went ahead and ordered the part before they even come out.

I want to do the water level control conversion as well and was going to use the variable pressure switch from my old one but I could not for the life of me get the knob off of it and damaged the switch trying to get it off so looks like I'm gonna have to buy a new one

When timer failed on my Miele washer so wanted to believe (or hope) it was just the motors, but alas not; timer itself was shot. Happily was able to find and install another so that's me for you.

Always wonder why people with basically brand new appliances don't bother having them serviced if warranty will cover costs.

In any event such things are boon to us collectors as one can often nab a basically NIB machine for comparatively little money.

Bit of a rant....The incompetence of some businesses astonishes me sometimes. The appliance repair place that was supposed to fix it ordered the wrong part. Then a week later ordered the wrong part again and just took me off their schedule probably thinking I wouldn't notice, so when i called asking when they would be here it was "Oh sorry there was a mistake we will be there tomorrow" which is today so I call again today to ask when they will be in. "Oh sorry the part is no longer available we ordered the wrong part again and didn't realize it"

Unbelievable. Trying to get ahold of Speed Queen again to find out if this is even true or not, but in the meantime I'm going to have to source a used timer to get this thing running correctly, so if anyone knows another good source for used parts (I will check ebay of course) that would be great cuz i'm not gonna wait around for SQ to get anymore if they NLA.

The timer is the item of question?  The Part Number isn't clear on your Photo #2 of Reply #17.  Parts diagrams indicate 203387P (or 203387).  Various online sources advise unavailable, out-of-stock, production delays, or backordered (one says expected in April).  There are currently five choices on eBay, four used and one new.

Alliance Laundry Systems doesn't say anything specific, allows it to be put into a shopping cart but that isn't a confirmation of availability.

Well I called SQ and they confirmed that the repair place was full of crap, that they had plenty of the correct timers available. SQ put me on hold and called them and got the run around worse than I did. The good news is the wonderful and understanding lady I talked to at SQ customer service felt sorry for me and agreed to just send me the part after i convinced her i could replace it myself without any issue.

All is well for now, but what a royal pain dealing with the repair place, how those people stay in business i have no clue.

Getting the run-around is becoming the norm just about everywhere. Quick to take your money, gigantic middle finger even if there's a legitimate problem.

I don't get those headaches pulling old machines out of the scrap pile

I’m glad they’re sending you the timer that’s what Speed Queen was supposed to do in the first place.

On premise laundry machines like your washer, do not have any labor warranty. The dealer you were dealing with was full of it. Maybe they discovered that they were not gonna get paid for the call and just told you they couldn’t get the part, who knows

But there is no labor warranty on that washer even if it’s two days old, you have to pay the labor if you talk to the right person at Speed Queen, they will send you the parts for that machine, the only thing they might ask, is for you to send the old one back if they were suspicious, they generally don’t.

I’m sorry you went through that, it might help to do a follow up letter to Speed Queen telling him the problems you had and that this company is not doing their reputation any good.

Well now I'm wondering if SQ is gonna do what they said, I was told I would get a confirmation email with tracking number for the part and I haven't gotten that yet. Getting tired of manually putting the timer through each cycle it's getting old and this should have been taken care of weeks ago.

Also unrelated to the timer issue, I leveled the machine as good as i could possibly get it but the tub keeps leaning towards the front of the machine quite a bit while in the washing and rinse cycles, should I be concerned about this?

When I transported the machine I had to lay it down in my car for it to fit and I did so on the front of the machine in case any water leaked out it did not get on any of the wiring. It was only in that position for about 45 minutes, but because now the tub leans in that direction I feel like I did something to it like mess up the springs or something.

Might have stretched the rear spring a bit. Usually these machines do the gangsta lean to right which generally centers itself during the spin cycle. Some adjust the feet slightly off center to compensate but make sure the tub is relatively centered during the spin cycle.

Just another reason I really like the Maytag helical suspension design. It's fully adjustable, even if it takes a few trial and error runs to get the clamping force adjusted correctly, then center the tub.

Well this keeps getting better you can't make this crap up. So I never got a confirmation number or tracking number for the timer via email like the customer service rep said I would so I called to check and make sure the part was being sent. Come to find out the timer is on back order and there is no ETA on when there will be any available. The person I talked to this time said to wait three weeks and if the part hasn't arrived to call back and they would offer other options, like something about pro rating it and getting a different machine I guess, but they said after three weeks if there is still no part available they will do something what that something is exactly I'm not sure but i guess I'll find out. So apparently the service place was right about the part not being available.

Guess I'll see if I can find a used one for now, in the meantime it's back to manually putting the machine through the cycles which is proving to be a pain. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get a new machine out of this stay tuned LOL

Looks like Alliance has new ones for $117 part number 203387P, how can Alliance have them but not SQ? This makes no sense to me.

I don't really want to buy one but who knows how long it will take to get one from SQ if I ever do. What would you guys do? Should i hold out and see what they will do to make it right? I don't know what kind of a pro rate they will give me towards a new machine but it might be worth finding out.

Aren’t Alliance and Speed Queen one and the same? I would call Speed Queen back, ask to speak with a supervisor and then give that person the info and link for where you found the timer available for $117.00 from Alliance. Then request that Speed Queen get the timer from THEIR company’s stock (Alliance) and send it to you post haste!

This kind of run around is really completely unacceptable. I know that to many members here Speed Queen is like the holy grail of washing machines, but really, how can anyone defend this kind of BS from any reputable company? If Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire or any other appliance company behaved this way I believe that the Speed Queen loyalists would have a cow over it. Speed Queen should be held to the same standard.

It really depends on your level of patience and persistence. You can keep haggling them until they finally give in, if you really want to play the game. However, you paid an extremely low price for a virtually new machine. Throwing in $120 for new timer would be worth my sanity.

If you REALLY want to work the system, purchase the new timer, install it, and keep haggling Speed Queen until they send you one. Immediately turn around and sell it for profit or just shelve it for the future.

I called SQ back again asking why I can get a timer from Alliance and not them. They checked and confirmed alliance doesn't actually have them in stock, that it would be on order and who knows when you would get it. I actually kind of had that feeling since online it doesn't actually say "in stock" so I guess I'm not too surprised as I've had that exact thing happen to me before where I ordered a part thinking it's in stock and didn't get it until a few months later LOL

I guess at this point it's a waiting game, and if they don't have the part within 3 weeks I'll take them up on their pro rate offer and just get a new machine.
