I have a Norge washer model LWA 2040 A 00. Approximate vintage: 1967. The agitate cycle works fine. The spin cycle does not. Water is drained from tub in spin cycle but tub does not turn/spin. The lid switch seems to work just fine, the tub just doesn't spin. No unusual sounds. Any suggestions.

May have solution.

Thanks laundromat and Aloha! I think I found the culprit.

In my attached photo below, there is an arrow pointing to a bolt that serves as the pivot for an arm that disengages the agitate cycle to allow a spin. The bolt is loose but badly corroded. The arm has a lot of play in it. I can pull the arm with my hand and the spin cycle then works. I'm in the process of de-corroding the bolt with WD40. If I can tighten that bolt, I think I will hopefully solve the problem. Will report back.

Pilsnermonkey, could I trouble for some photos of your washer--control panel (upclose) to see the control details as well as shot of the interior of the washer itself. thank you very much. also, how long have you had the machine? What's it's history, if ya know it. Cool to have found another Norge around--there are some Norge fans here!!!

A '67 Norge that still functions?

Was it only used for light loads on Sundays during total solar eclipses or what?

Forget the bolt. You need an exorcist.

Need Brake Solenoid for Norge LWA 2040 A 00 (PN 33-6357 or 3

Ha ha. Yeah, I can get some photos but I'm scrambling to find a replacement solenoid. Care to see some really old dust bunnies? Original part number 33-6357. Substitute part number 35-0472. I have found a couple for $50-$60 but that is just a little steep imho. Anyone happen to have one of these solenoids laying around? Photos to follow.

Eek a mouse!

This is sadly humorous. I found a solenoid locally for $15. Jackpot! Picking it up today. I've been putzing with the machine and discovered that it no longer fills with water.

When setting up a new wash cycle, I turn the control dial as usual to the first position. Normally, the washer fills and then starts into the agitate cycle. Now it's going straight to agitate without filling with water.

So I pulled off the rear cover to inspect the pump and stuff and found an unusually large dust bunny in with the wiring to the motor. Closer inspection reveals that this ain't no dust bunny...it's a fried mouse! His location is in a critical wiring spot at the motor. I'm thinking maybe he was the cause of the initial problem (blown solenoid) AND the newly discovered pump problem. What do you guys think about the filling issue? Any help greatly appreciated. I have a bunch of photos that I've put on a webpage here:

Please have a peek. Hope I got all the photo requests handled. If not, holler and I can post more.

Unless the control panels were considerably different between Norge and Signature in 1967, I am thinking it's not a '67. My mom's Signature had a slanted panel, with selector buttons similar to those on Todd's machine, but with the newer white agitator. Maybe the agitator is the key to figuring out the exact age of PM's machine. I'm going to guess 1966.

Isn't Ben's Wash'n'Touch Warge a 1967? That had the white agitator. and it had the slanted panel just as Ralph described. Our 1964 Norge had the black abeklite agitator with the same style slanted panel Ralph. Our tub ring matched the same speckled porcelain pattern as the wash basket too.

A client of mine had a very similar set as your Norge from 1974. The panel had nearly identical graphics, etc. but was a step up with a speed selector dial in addition to infinite water level and four temp options. The burp-up white agitator didn't show up until around '69 or so, this washer was a '69 Her Majesty.

That '69 Signature 18 is almost identical to my mom's white two-speed '67, or maybe hers was a '68. The console light didn't run the full length under the panel, just a short one in the center but knobs and buttons were the same. Lint filter was a crescent mounted at top rear of tub.
