I have 2 sets of them, washer and dryer...theres something about the way these dryers dry and fluff with minimal wrinkles on any load....others can't compare...and I have several other brands, but this is the one I prefer to use the most

Ofcourse we are looking forward now to an opinion about the Whirlpool dryer with the top lint filter versus the Whirlpool dryer with the lint filter in the door...

I love the Whirlpool dryers with the top lint filter. We have one. It has been totally trouble free over the past 17 years. It dries clothes very well without overdrying them.
I like the lint filter on the top as it is larger than the in the door model, and it seems to catch more lint & animal hair.
The clothes always come out totally lint free.

While I do like both dryers, I must say that I prefer the 27 inch machine without the top mount filter. The top mount filter gets lint dust all over the top of the machine and require that I dust after each load. Also, it's been my experience that things come out of the 27 inch machine a bit softer than out of the top mount filter 29 inch machine. At the moment, I'm lusting after these new dryers from Whirlpool, both the 27 inch design.

Personally I like the 27 inch models a bit better because the door is a bit higher in the cabinet. I think that is stylingwise a bit nicer. IIRC Greg once said the 29 inch dryers tangled sheets etc more than the 27 inch models. Is that your experience too?

I never really thought about that but you're right! Whenever I dry bulky items in the 29 inch whirlpool I do have to stop it and untangle/unroll the item. However, I don't have to do that in the 27 inch machine. I wonder if it has to do with the airflow? Perhaps the airflow in the 27 inch machine being perpendicular to the direction of tumble rotates the load on a vertical axis while the load is also tumbling on a horizontal axis such that and tangling/rolling up on the horizontal axis is quickly undone when the airflow turns the items around in the other direction on the vertical axis?
I have no idea, I'm on the other side of the big pond, we don't have those dryers here. But I was curious about it because I had heard about it. Perhaps somebody else knows more about this.
Keep in mind the 29" dryers come in several capacities - 5.9, 6.5, and 7.0 cu. ft. The 27" models that match TL washers are 7.4 cu. ft. The 7.4 cu. ft. drums have slightly different proportions; that is, they are deeper in relation to diameter. It is probably a combination of larger capacity and drum proportions in the 27" machines that cause less tangling in them, especially compared to the 5.9 cu. ft. model.
I have heard, both here and otherwise, that the 29" models are more reliable than the 27". Also, as the drums are deeper in the 27" dryers, the cabinet is about 1.5" deeper, causing it to protrude further out into the room. This is more of a problem if it's in a line of cabinets. I agree with that. The 29" has been made, in one profile or another since the 1960's. In the 1970's, when Whirlpool came out with the Large or Super capacities, they merely bumped out the back for a larger tub. They kept the rest of the machine the same.
I've never had any problem with 29" Whirlpool made dryers. I like the lint filter on top AND I hear what was said about the lint/dust coming off on the top of the dryer. This problem is easily solved and you couldn't do this with an upfront lint filter.
Simply turn the dryer on FIRST before pulling up the screen. This sucks out any dust that will come off the screen. When the filter is almost all the way out, start to peel the lint off the filter. Then start pushing the screen back in AND continue pulling the lint into a roll until you reach the top of the filter.
