I've heard about a kenmore Oasis or a Whirlpool Cabrio. Has someone seen some info about those machines. Are they the same as the calypso's? Or are they just classical aggitator washers? I've looked on the sites of sears or Whirlpool but not Oasis neither Cabrio?

Oasis is for sale in California

The THS thread has the Oasis on the sales floor in California so far (that's where the pictures came from). I know the Sears in VA are clearing out the old models to get ready for new ones -- the sales people don't know anything about the Oasis yet, but I'm hoping it will show up around the end of the month. It is surprising that Sears.com doesn't have anything on it yet. I called customer service, and their own reps had no info on it (ended up calling a store in CA to let me ask my questions to the sales manager directly). The Whirlpool Cabrio was only introduced this week at the builders' show, so I wouldn't expect to see them for several months.

The wash plate looks similar to the Harmony, and probably works in a similar manner. Capacity is huge (3.89 cf DOE vs 3.53 for Harmony). No internal heater on the Oasis, however.

Gotta love that moon-roof! I would jump all over this, but I want to find out if it has the same linting/tangling/wrinkling issues as the ill-fated Calypso. I guess all Calypso owners now have a collector's item, along with the TL Maytag Neptune owners.

Re: Oasis Sales:

They are only available in the San Francisco area for Sale at this time. I found out from my Salesman Friend here at one of the Sacramento Sears Stores, that the SF area is a "Test" area at least for the Western States.

I would assume that if someone was interested enough in making a purchase and lived in or close enough to the Bay Area, that you could go to the Sears there for Purchase and do the Installation yourself.

That is what I would do, if I had the $$$ and was interested enough in wanting to check them out.

Oasis/Cabrio

I had the pleasure of going to the builder's show today and was delighted to see all the new products comming out this Spring.Yes Sears and Whirlpool are going to be releasing a washer and matching dryer very similar to GE's Harmony. However, there rae going to be some seriously noticeable differances as well. They are imediately noticed by the huge see thru windows on the washer lid and dryer door(alas just as they have done with their HE3T and HE4T the Kenmores have a smoked glass that is not as easy to see thru as Whirlpool's clear glass models are)then the impeler is made of polly not stainless steel, the tub is identical to the one in a Fisher Packel, there are 3 dispesers on the sides as you open the lid on the washer, the design is truly unique and verry streamline.
The LG's now have a built in steamer in their front loader and have redesigned the style a bit including a newer style door, interior light in the washer,a full line of beautiful electric ranges all with thermal/convection ovens made of a thick/blue speckled porcelain on steel finish. The heating (bake)elements are compltely hidden beneath the oven base.
GE's new line was also impressive including a new round of electric ranges all with glass touch controls eliminating the "cheap"plastic touch pads that were vulnerable to wear and tare.Their new front loading washer with the matching dryer are sure to cause some friction due to their similarities to the Duets at about half the price.
While at The Home Depot's booth,we saw two new refrigerators that were different brands but had the same idea using almost the same method.Maytag has released(HD will have it beginning this Friday exclusively for 30 days before anybody else)One is a Maytag. It is a French door/bottom freezer model with ice and water on the door!!! What they have done is made a special space in the refrigerator on the left side at the verry top to place an ice maker in a small freezer zone placed exclusively there to make icecubes and store them keeping them frozen untill needed. The Lg model placed theirs on the left door which takes away quite a bit of door space but no matter how you do it,you're going to have to lose the space somehow.I was more impressed with the use of the space in the Maytag than I was with the LG.
Whirlpool/KitchenAid has also been working on some fresh ideas including an over the range hood/oven that looks so much like it's made by LG.The rounded interior gives it away but,Their newer styles and designs are beautifully eligant and looked stunning in the kitchen set ups the had them in.
I was glad I brought extra clothes along because I was so thrilled to get to see so many new products being unvaled I "creamed my jeans" twice!!! LOL

chuck thanks for all the information. I always seriouisly appreciate it. LG's light int he washer is enough for me to do that to my jeans. The GE frontload pair you mentioned, is that the current one on the market or is it the set upcoming later on this year.

Chuck, Whirlpool and Fisher & Paykel have a technology agreement between the two. I.E. the KA dishdrawe3rs. And F&P is going to begin producing their top load dryer in Clyde Ohio later on this year. Wouldn't surprise me to see KA brand on F&P laundry.

Not unless F&P has changed the basket design very recently. My 2004 IWL12 has the same basket design as my 1999 GWL08, and it's not quite like that. Similar, but not identical. The Oasis basket doesn't appear to have the horizontal corrugations.

Maytag's idea of having ice in the french door is a good one. The separate freezer bin for the ice might help prevent the ice from picking up off-odors from the fridge compartment. but I wonder what it does to the energy rating.

On a tangential note, I saw an undercounter version of the Whirlpool Gladiator at Costco yesterday. It has the same diamond plate door panel as the big one, but it's all fridge, no freezer. Only 6 cu ft, but probably enough for a few six packs or even a keg. It has a lipped shelf on top of it, and rides on little casters. The advantage of the Gladiator series is that unlike standard fridges, they are designed to work properly even when the ambient temp dips below 55F.

I wasn't aware the LG washers had tub lights. Is this a new feature?

GE front loaders

The GE company has already introduced their new front loaders nationwide however, they differ in the cycle selector dial. Some have a rinse & spin cycle setting and some have a drain & spin setting. It depends on what dealer you shop. They (GE) do this to be able to keep competitive shopping to a minnimum.Because of the features and super capacity,at $749/washer & $699/electric dryer,The GE's sell all day long.I must say GE has been pretty smart in their marketing skills lately. The newer models that have different features and are a step up from these will be unvailed around June of this year.
There is a dealer up the street that sells Fisher Packel and has numerous matched sets brand new(scratch and dent)top of the line including the verticle axis dryers at $599/washer and $499/electric dryer. As much as I am realitvely oposed to top loading /agitator washers, for some reason they caught my interest.any coments on whether or not anyone recomends them or not?I know the brothers(Dominique & mike)and sometimes help them out on my days off.I got a few items from them either real cheap or free like a GE Profile front loading washer and dryer that was dropped off the truck but not damaged,A Sharp 2.8 cu. ft.microwave convection oven,a coppertone Maytag A806 washer with the matching dryer, and a 1967 Lady Kenmore washer with all pushbutton cycles.

Chuck, I've had Fisher & Paykel laundry since 1999. First a GWL08 and DE04 (which have moved to my grandmother's house), and now an IWL12 and DEGX1 (topload dryer). They're a lot of fun. $599 is a good price for a DEGX1 or DGGX1

Thanks,I went to look at them again and will be buying the set for $750! I made a deal and promised Mick I would buy the GE service plan on them both if he gave me a good price. He also had an extra set of clear display lids that can be used regularly and is throwing them in too!
