I had an interesting discussion with Jason (an experienced repair technician) who was telling me of issues with the new liquid Tide x2 formulae out in the field.
He said people are not using the cap to measure the correct amount of detergent----doubtless because of their habit of using a full capful for a full load. They evidently do not grasp the significance of the "x2" and of course,as usual, it seems it is an un-American activity to read directions.

Anyway, he says he has recieved many calls from Maytag owners in particular, who are having sudz-lock problems all of a sudden----only to discover it is because of their mis-use of liquid Tide x2!

Just curious to hear if anyone else has heard any complaints?

I hate Tide

Tide and I go way back.I had a neighbor when I was a kid in Baltimore, who owned a commercial coin laundry with all Bendix "Double Load" front loading washers.I think Jon LeFever's brother has a few of them in avacado green.Anyway.The customers swore by Tide and they'd just pour The powder down the shoot not measuring and not pulling out the button that would cancel the pre-wash.During the pre-wash,the suds would billow up and go into the drain field behind the washers and leave a mess. Then the washer would drain to go into the main wash and the customers would either be sitting down reading a magazine or had left to go shop or something and come back later. The suds Tide makes are way too much.Even their so called HE detergent works nothing like Wisk. I can use any non HE detergent,ad a little WiskHE and it immediately cuts the suds down.I see the same ordeal at a local Speed Queen Equipped coin laundry.I don't dare try to show the customers how to use the dispensers properly.Just sit, watch and laugh. If Tide had kept its original aroma,I would probably use it now and then but, currently, like with Cascade,I am not interested.

Mr.Ken's reaction

I forgot to say that Ken,the owner, one day was not in a great mood. Somebody had been using slugs instead of dimes and quarters to do their wash and had been doing it for quite a while or had a lot to do and used numerous machines because he had gone the night before to clean up and empty the coin boxes out and found almost $25 worth of slugs used in the washers, dryers and soap supply vending machine.Well, the culprit returned and was there one Sunday morning.Ken was repairing the pump in one of his machines and witnessed the guy using the slugs. He had about 7 loads to do. Ken called the police and approached the guy. They got in a fight and the police arrested the "slug user".This was a common problem back then.Ken's wife,Miss Ilene, later on got Lou Gerrig's disease and he closed the laundry to take care of her till she past away in "71. But I had lots of fun at his laundry and his house where he had a 1958 Whirlpool top loading washer. He always hung clothes out and had lines at the laundry too for customers to use. They were the only family in my neighborhood who had an electric range in their kitchen. They had a gas (Chambers) range in their basement.

"I don't dare try to show the customers how to use the dispensers properly. Just sit, watch and laugh."

As do I, but I keep the softener on hand and put some in at the first rinse...

D*mn marketing and packaging not making the caps the right size. Even with my Wisk 3X, the cap is twice as big as it needs to be.

I find the cap useless for measuring Tide X2. I use a plastic McCormick spice jar and for a typical load in my Maytag A606 (large capacity) I fill the little jar only halfway. Of course, your results will vary depending on the hardness of your water.

All detergent manufacturers want you to use too much so they will sell more, Tide is certainly no exception.

Here's the jar I use:

Would be more interesting to see if it is the Tide 2x HE that is causing it. I could smell a lawsuit against P&G for false representation in marketing... "Oops, we forgot to add the anti-suds ingredient! Now introducing Tide 2x REAL HE with nary a bubble! Look, you can even drink the rinse water!"

Great Thread!

I received a free sample of Tide Total Care in the mail, and also Tide 2X HE. (I went to Tide's website and picked for two free samples)
I used both of them. I loved the smell, but boy watch out for the suds! I used the Tide Total Care first, and thought, well it is not "HE". The Tide "HE was no difference, and I cut back quite a bit on the amount because of the first try with the Total Care.
I really liked tide over the years, but I have not been using it in ages.

I have some Tide HE 2x with Bleach I have been using for whites. It's ok. But I still think the addition of OxyClean helps get even better results. I've also been using Purex HE liquid. Liquids are frustrating to me because I have a very difficult time seeing the lines and numbers on the inside of the cap, per instructions, as to what level to fill for how big a load I'm doing or how soiled it is. Powders are much easier for me to use, but they're almost nonexistent in HE formula now except for Tide, which I really don't like using.

I am a fan of many Tide products---especially liquid 2X HE with Bleach Alternative, and regular liquid 2X. I also continue to use my multi-box stash of powdered Tide Cold Water, as well as the highly rated new liquid Tide Cold Water X2 HE.

Having said all that, I agree with everyone here who feels all Tide products are too damn sudsy. I find they clean very well, though. I wish P&G would get over their propensity for uber-sudsing products. Do most people even notice what's going on in their washers, anymore? (Present company excluded, of course.)

Who'd miss the suds, especially if it doesn't really help much in the cleaning process. I'd far prefer cleaner rinses in my very soft water.

Oh, and to get back to the original question: I have no problem measuring small doses in the new 2X caps. I usually fill only to line 1 (recommended for lightly soiled or smaller loads in soft water). I go to line 2 for more challenging loads.

On the note of Purex...

I have been using the Ultra Concentrate -- "Natural Elements"
I think it is a great cleaner. I can use as much as I want with any load type. I like the smell. And it rinses very well.
Oh, and it is cheap in price!

I bought the Tide HE 2x and it suds up like made in my Miele. In the Maytag/Samsung Neptune there wasnt really as much suds as the Miele. I did notice that on the bottle that Miele was not recommended or listed as a brand to use the liquid Tide HE 2x in. The powder Tide HE is fine in the Miele and doesnt suds up like the liquid does. I think with the Miele honeycomb semi solid drum it does make a difference in sudsing factor. And I have learned the hard way not to mix like I used to Tide w/Bleach Powder and Tide HE Powder. If I dont get the ratios right its suds city in the Miele and it will default to a suds kill rinsing and it will keep rinsing until the sensors dont detect suds anymore. With towels it can be maddening with up to 6 rinses being added.

I have a bottle of Tide liquid 2x HE bleach alternative. It states on the bottle to fill to line 2 for a medium load (what ever that means. Is that soil or load size?) Anyway in my HE3 I fill the cap to line 1 for a full load. I have not had any issues with suds and such. And, on top of that my clothes are clean, smell great. I do perfer powder, which i have Tide HE powder. With the powder I do the same thing, I measure to the lowest line, which does not have a number and get the same great results.

Now Brent, Purex used to suck, so you've gotten my curiosity going. I wonder if it has been re-formulated from the old stuff? Is it really that low-sudzing----I can use as much as I want in the FriGEMore? Will it clean dirt? I had a hellofagarden this year!

Funny!

I love it!
Now I have not done any garden work, but I find it cleans very well. (Purex)
About the Frigemore. Try is, but in small doses. I used it in my Frigemore, and it was more suds than the Hettie.
It is cheap, so give it a whirl if you can find it cheap.
I can only attest for the Ultra Concentrate -- "Natural Elements".
I bet your garden was nice. What did you grow??? Oh crap...that is another thread.

I bought Tide 2X and was not impressed. It does suds in both my Kenmore wringer, and my Kenmore belt drive. Granted, the Kenmore wringer (1967) has an agitator that naturally creates more suds than most. But I was also dissapointed in the cleaning ability. I got much better results with powdered Oxydol!

I think I tried a Tide X2 one load sample. If the sample I tried is Tide X2, then I can say I despise it. The scent is too strong--even after the clothes are dried.

I've used Purex in the last few months--also the "Natural Elements." It worked fine for me--and the price is attractive.

Well this is encouraging...

This is part of the response I got back from Tide on my complaint last night about way too many suds with their Tide HE Original Scent.

"Thanks for contacting us, Laurent.

I'm sorry you're getting too many suds when you use Tide HE Original. We are aware of this issue and are looking into it..."

I've written to them a few times about this issue and this is the first time they have ever acknowledged there was a problem. Lets wait and see.
