Combos

I really expected combos to have made a comeback in the US market by now! What's the holdup Whirlpool?

1957 Whirlpool combo

WOW John you never fail to amaze me with your skills at doing just about anything. Now you have me even more excited about  picking up the 1958 Gas Combo in Indiana next week  and of course getting to see you and your new machine when I get to Minnesota the following week.

I would have replied sooner but we just finished the 15th load of dishes from our holiday party for our car club this morning. I took some pictures of the loads of dishes before and after they were run, we had over 65 people for dinner.

TIME TO COMPLETE CYCLE

I never timed the wash 10 min wash plus 3 rinses.I would say about 20min max.Dry time depends on size of load and what it is.I have never dried anything more than an hour and a half.I did a test load of 8 bath towls and they dried in 1hr 15 min.good size load of t-shirts and socks took about an hour.I was surprised how well it dries with such a slow spin.

TIME TO COMPLETE CYCLE

If hot wash is used, possible additional time may be needed/used to heat the wash water up to 140 degbrees after it enters a cold cabinet.  Maybe a minute for every1.5 degrees given it's a 4300 watt water heater.

incredible machine and restoration

That is an outstanding restoration and machine, the best example I have seen of one of those.Totally fascininating, great pictures. This is one of my favorite things to find on this site these detailed restorations, would love to see more like this. What is the story with the bendix in the first photo? That is the same one I have.Mine currently doesnt run, motor just hums.

The sound you just heard was my jaw hitting the floor. WOW! That RCA Whirlpool combo looks like it just stepped off the showroom floor. Absolutely stunning. Once again, I have to tip my hat to those of you with the know-how and the patience to do such beautiful work.

Beautiful Bendix, as well, John. Is it stable on that riser? I'd be so fearful of a machine vibrating or walking off one of those things.

Steal Stand

My Dad welded the steal stand for me, which is bolted to the floor and the bendix is bolted to it.Very solid no shaking at all.

Absolutely fabulous, John!! Congratulations for a job well done.

Just out of curiosity, how does the spin speed of this compare to that of the Westinghouse front loaders of the same vintage? I believe the spun at 500 something rpms. Also, how well does it handle out of balance loads.

The WP spins at 200 rpms.  If mechanically set properly, it's somewhat sensitive to off balanced loads and will stop and rebalance.  At least with the LK that lived next door to me did.
