NickUK's thread about the Tide with Oxy in it (do we even have that in the US?) made me think of something else Oxy-related.

I have Oxy-Clean, and put some in with the whites, but not anything else unless there's a spot or something that needs attending to. Has anyone noticed that the scoop gets larger with seemingly every progressive bucket you purchase? Pretty soon the bucket will have to get larger to accomodate the scoop! What's up with that?

OxyClean

Could it be that more people use it as a laundry additive than a cleaning agent so the scoop is designed to accomodate that.
Chritopher Kimball, with America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Magazine, tested all the spot removers and cleaning agents designed to get stains out, on kitchen garmets. They were stained with a variety of things like bacon grease, tomato sauce, ketchup, coffee etc. Some products cleaned some stains but the ONLY product to getout EVERY stain in the test was OxyClean. BUT.......It only worked when the load was soaked four hours or more and they recommend over night. Another reason to own multiple machines so you can soak and wash without waiting.

Yes, my load of whites takes about 3-3.5 hours beetween cold pre-wash and then the 2 hour soak in hot water. It's about the same amount of times as if I had an HE4T and the Sanitary cycle with stain treat, so that day won't be any more or less time consuming. I may even save some time because I'll get distracted and forget to begin the next phase of where ever the process is. I'm very pleased with the results. And one reason why Oxy-Clean works so well with modern heater-supplemented front loaders and the gradual increase of temp.

I have seen-------

I have noticed exactly what you are saying about the scoop in the oxy clean and it is rediculous!!! i guess that they figure that more often than not people will not pay attention to this and just put the full scoop in. I just save the scoop from a few containers ago and walaaaah! i am not using more like they want me too.i usually get it from Cosco( for 12 dollars for a huge oneI I think a bargin), and it is coming in a carboard container with a plastic bag. Have you seen this? And yes a huge scoop.

I perused the usage instructions on the two choices @ WM last night. IIRC, the original "OxyClean" product says 2 to 3 scoops per load. The "Sun" version says 1 scoop. Didn't open the packages, dunno what size are the scoops.
