I'd say your "one simple" comment became more and more beligerent as evidence was presented that refuted your thoughts and claims. Why do you so desperately need to be "right" and why do you see things one way only?
Guess where nervous-breakdowns come from? IMO they are from those who cling to thoughts that are not supported by reality and surrounding circumstances. One day the thoguhts in one's
head have a head-on coillison with reality. The holder of those thoughts is forced to see that his expectations and thoughts are bogus. The ONLY way to avoid mental isseus is to adjust to reality /actuality, and to change one's preconcieved notions.

you are wrong, my WHOLE family has front loaders 4 of my friends 2 of my aunts i had 2 front loaders in 5 years, and NOBODY i know that has them likes them, i am not saying that people that like front loaders shouldnt like them, i simply agreed with qsd-dan about top loaders and water temperatures. and u made your comment about us basically not caring about the environment just b cuz we like top loaders. the only reason front loaders are even on the market is because of the american government, front loaders have been around since the 40s and even back then americans didnt like them, thats just the way it is, i do not entirely hate front loaders, i do love the speed queen front loaders, however i am disappointed in the quality and reliabilty of most US front loaders.

Dude, quit with the chicken-little-the-sky-is-falling deal on CFLs. Each bulb contains much less mercury than a typical amalgam dental filling, or a mercury-bulb HVAC thermostat, or a mercury fever thermometer which people routinely put into their mouths. Coal-fired power plants spew TONS more mercury than the total amount in all the CFL bulbs produced in a given year.

Most of the times opinions don't match. that's what makes our world interesting. What would happen with the red if everybody prefer blue?

I love vintage washing machines. They have interesting design, they clean well and are very quick, and they last. But I also love modern machines. I love technology and I believe we can also have excellent results using a HE washer.
I remember clearly when the new standards were announced. the manufacturers almost wanted to kill themselves because they should reinvent the wheel and rediscover the fire or get out of the market. They had to make something nobody did before and it was the worst nightmare one could have. Are the HE machines perfect? No, they are not, but considering the 10 years of HE technology vs the 100 years of standard washing machine technology, the HE machines are a miracle. NEVER in history the manufacturers worked together. Can you imagine Whirlpool's, Maytag's (before the merge), GE's and Electrolux's (Frigidaire) engineers sharing the same office and industrial secrets to develop a new technology? That's what they did secretly, joining the best of their knowledge not as competitors, but as partners. It can be noted on the first HE front loaders that look like the same machine with a different design.
It made possible to launch the first generation of HE machines.
Can you remember the disaster they were if compared to the machines we have today? Calypso and Neptune TL vs Duet and Electrolux Wavetouch.
I think we all must admit the HE technology had a wonderful evolution and there are too much to be (and being) researched and developed to make the future machines even better.
About detergents.... I do collect them too so... Woooooo hoooooooooo, verions on my shelf!! I think they should launch a Tide version for red fabrics, other for black, other for green with yellow stripes, other for wool. and of course the regular and HE version of each one of them, with 20 different fragrances + scent free, 30 different sizes and also collectible boxes or bottles.
As my daily drivers, I would choose only 2 or three different brands. whites/colours, blacks and delicates.

Wow I have not seen anything like this in a loooong time! Its amazing how the claws come out and the fur flies! Toggles is right in what he said Toploader. In another thread you headlined it with "Everybody read this!" Then you had a hissy fit when the UK guys chimed in...well to me when you say everybody it means just that..everybody. Everyone has an opinion...no matter if its right or wrong everyone is entitled to it. But when someone has a nutty when they dont agree with them then to me there is a problem. Just my opinion and thats how I see it.

Somewhere amongst the 57 variations of Tide, I'd like to see a super-low sudsing version of liquid and powdered Tide HE with Color Clean Bleach Alternative. All of P&G's detergents have tenacious suds.
A friend to went to England last spring brought back some Persil (tablets) for me. Even in my softened water, the suds are completely gone by the final rinse in my frontloader. This is never the case for with Tide (and most other US detergents, for that matter.)
The closest I've come to a clean final rinse with US detergents is SA8.

Too bad about SA8...i did like it before they reformulated it. I dont buy it now cause I cant see paying that kinda price when Tide cleans better. Used to be the other way around. I went to the Amway site and they said all SA8 products were being discontinued.

P & G has gotten themselves into a bit of a pickle in the recent economy it seems.
They've come out with these "Basic" renditions of all their products.
As someone who's always thought their stuff was too expensive to begin with (*), if they offer a "Basic" product, aren't they somewhat admitting that their "regular" products were overpriced? If I pinch pennies and buy the "Basic", (which is usually still more pricey than store brands and competing brands) and it works ok, even if the economy goes up again, why would I go back to spending more money on the full-price product?
I've always been thrifty, but I know that over the past 2 yrs (job layoff, then return to grad school) my thriftiness has gotten more intense. If my grandmother was alive, she'd rave at my couponing* and ability to stretch a dollar, but I know that a lot of my buying/shopping habits now are permanently changed- regardless of what happens with the economy.

(*) and what's with P & G's skimpy coupons?! They're the only ones who push out teensy little .25 & .35 coupons anymore. Sorry, but that's barely worth the paper its printed on, and the effort it takes me to find my scissors. Oh I don't know about that. Have seen products in new packaging however, so maybe the old stock is what is going.

SA8 still exists. Amway just released a reformulation of many of their cleaning products and a complete repackage. They are now called "Legacy of Clean". SA8 powder formula remains the same They've reformulated the stain spray, trizyme, liquid detergent and delicate wash. The old formulas of stain spray and liquid are going away. Looks like they're going after the "green" market. This applies to the cleaning and dish care products too. I haven't tried any of the new stuff yet, probably will order next week. HTH, Todd

Tide Basic - Regional Rollout?
Has anyone used the Tide Basic product? If so, how does it compare to the other P&G offerings? I haven't seen it anywhere in the stores here in Southern California.

Interesting. When I type in "Quixtar.com" as the address (rather than Amway), I get listings for both classic-looking SA8 detergent in a box AND the new Legacy Of Clean repackaged SA8, which appears to be in a bag (at least the large size is).
Funny how many companies are tripping over themselves to package things in green...preferably with a leaf as the primary graphic.
