Everything Is Shrinking
Go the meats department of the supermarket and what once was six pieces in a pack is now five or *gasp* four; what was four is three, and three now two....
What gets me is of course the prices do not decrease but in some cases a small increase. So in essence one is paying more or the same for less product which still equals a price increase in my book.
Companies like P&G say according to their market testing consumers prefer smaller packaging to increased prices. That seems to be the company line and many are sticking to it.
The end result of all this nonesense is that the government numbers state that inflation is "low" to barely on the radar, but despite the shrinkage consumers are spending more on food each year of the past several as prices continue to rise.
Two ounces less of a product or one less piece of chicken in a pack may not be the end of the world for some, but to a housewive or anyone else trying to stick to a budget/make their limited funds go further it can cause problems.
