P&G to discontinue Gain Detergent

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I was in Toronto a couple of days ago and saw lemon-scented Purex liquid. It smelled SO much better than the Sunlight and Tide lemons. Wish we'd get that here. I am so wanting a lemon-scented detergent. I use downy-free so softener would not affect the smell.

I still like Classic Tide powder (just gave some to my Mom because she gets on that mountain fresh kick and I hate it). All classic powder is good too.

I stopped using Cheer because I didn't feel like it cleaned as well and the scent has become too much for me.

They DO have a Tide with Febreze citrus-scented liquid and fabric softener, but something got lost in the translation somewhere...reminds me of a "Long Island Ice Tea", unfortunately without the same effects, lol!

I guess the conglomerates just don't think Americans like the smell of lemons...

I never got a hit of any lemon-scented Purex liquid, but one Canadian product I loved (which of course means it's been discontinued) was Sunlight lemon tablets.

Incidentally, my ShopRite supermarket is discontinuing the Gain with Softener product....

gain go's bye bye

wtf? why would p&g stop making gain? damn it thats the only detergent we've ben using for about a year all we've been using is either tide, tide mountain fresh or gain, gain with a touch of softener. damn it i say lolz we really are adicted to it here especailly my mom! if i use gain i wont really use fabric softener! i dont care much for fabric softeners thats why we use gain we dont need to (however my parents still use fabric softener)what they should stop making is cheer instead never used it and never want to! ohh and yeah if i use a dryer i use the gain dryer sheets!

Cheer is not a bad detergent - it just needs to go retro. The newest packaging is to me, tacky. Why not go back to a more classic scent and packaging. I am no marketing guru but if one brand did it.... they might have an advantage over others. Plenty of people want something comforting and welcoming. That's the biggest issue facing powdered detergents today - the producers changed the scents and lost their market. Studies do suggest that children may start out their independent lives by experimenting with brands (all of things) their parents didn't use but end up reverting back to something more familiar as they mature. Oh well... enough useless banter from me. Cheers!

I think if they would have killed off Cheer, they would have done so already.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Cheer powder and liquid are now the only detergents that do not contain optical brighteners (powdered All and Surf AFAIK did not either, but are not widely available around here).

I have noticed that it is now priced noticeably lower than Tide.

NO!!!!

Gain Original is my absolute favorite!!!I even like to put some in a fresh vacuum cleaner bag! I just love the scent!! I'm going to have to start stock piling up!!! Marty

No, DON'T!!

Go up about a dozen posts....sudsdudeshane spoke to someone.

They're not killing the brand after all!

I am not sure why lemon scented detergents seem to be a Canadian thing only. The closest things I have seen here in a long while were the very short lived All "citrus breeze" liquid and now Tide with Febreze comes in a "citrus" scent.

I also wonder why the manufacturers will continue to introduce more and more variations in stronger and stronger fragrances, but will absolutely NOT consider going back to the original fragrances that everyone remembers.

Even what is sold as the "original" scent Gain bears absolutely no resemblance to the real original outstanding Gain fragrance from the 60's through the 80's.

Oh, well.....

The only lemon-scented detergent I've seen here is the Pathmark house brand, and that is not an effective cleaner.

They killed lemon Dash off about ten years ago. It came in powder and liquid form and was pushed as a bargain brand.

I guess everything goes around in cycles, and until it does, it's tear gas or it's nothing!

Angus, do you have a National Wholesale Liquidators outlet near you?

I was in there today and they are carrying the Tide Lemon Scent powder from Canada again (classic concentration, not ultra...)
