The give away is the red indicator light with Heater On
Hoover made Twin Tubs in the US- also I believe ive read on here they rebadged a couple of automatic machines??

Yeah, but they stopped making those too...... A long time ago.....
A few times, I saw a few of them on here, and getting one appeals to me. Because they will fit into my busy lifestyle right now.
Think about it for a second..... I work 7 days a week (5 on a full-time job and 2 more on a part-time job), and all I got to do is when laundry JUST starts to pile up, is roll the washer to my kitchen sink, hook it up to the faucet and fill the tub, put my clothes in and let them wash for a period of time. Then when the wash period ends, put them back in to rinse them after I have filled the tub with rinse water. Take them out of the wash tub and put them into the spinner, and let them spin. Then take to the laundromat and dry them the next day as soon as the laundromat opens. Depending on how damp dry the spinner gets them, I'll out of the laundromat in less than 15 minutes.
But my thing is, when this thing malfunctions, then where am I going to get parts for it??? And do technicians even repair these things anymore??? That's the VERY thing that has stopped me from getting one.
Those are my two biggest issues..... Otherwise, I would've seen about getting me one of those.
Well..... that's capitalism for you......

I have a Hoover 520 which is the lower end model of this machine.
The Hoover Automatics were Blackstone designed machines in Australia through the 500, 600, 700 and 800 series. These machines all had the big cast iron gearbox, with a change to plastic outer tubs with the 700 series and Stainless Bowls in the 800 series. They're much like a Maytag in design and layout, with a reversing motor.
Hoover ended up as part of Email Manufacturing and the Hoover washers from the Late 80's until about 3 years ago when the brand dissappeared were all clones of the Simpson, Westinghouse, Kelvinator machines that we had here. Much like a GE Hydrowave.
The 500 Series is from the late 60's, very early 70's. The design of the machine lasted through until the late 80's.

Hoover front loaders made in Australia were based on the 'square' door British machines. In fact, the only reason manufacture of the Australian machines stopped was that production of square door machines in the UK stopped and some of the parts were imported. This was pre Email days.
I had a Hoover Electra 550 from 1994 until 2005. A friend now has it and it is going strong. They are a basic 5kg machine. Maximum cycle length is about 50min. Mine had no heater (that was 555) and only 2 spin speeds - 500 or 800rpm dependant on cycle. I had 2 minor things done. A water leak fixed where a hose split on the detergent drawer and a door seal replaced. Pretty good given the machine had been tranported 14 times as I transfered around the country with work.

Though perhaps hard to come by, are not so rare. Production was only halted quite recently in the UK that MIB parts can still be found with some effort. Even in the United States, if one knows where to look and or keeps one's eyes peeled,parts do turn up.
Weakest link in Hoover TT's appears to be the pump, again, they can be hard to find, or you will be tripping over them, depending upon what mood the gods are in. Was quite blessed to have a member send a pump from Oz, to replace the knackered one in my machine. However later found one, then another NIB pump, so am setting pretty pump wise.
Hoover in the United States probably stopped making their portable washers and dryers as the market for semi-automatic, wringer and such machines decreased as more housewives and others moved to fully automatic washing machines. Even the portable washer and dryer market soon had fully automatic offerings by GE,Kenmore,and Whirlpool.
Twin tub washing was really a bridge niche, or variation if you will from wringer washing machines. But still, if one gets in the mood, one can easily run though a mountain of laundry quite fast in a twin tub, versus a normal washing machine.
Of course the easy solution, provided one has the space, is to purchase a second Hoover washer to use for donor parts. There is a posting from a member about NIB twintub washers for sale.
