I Hate That!
I did an interview on NPR only last December about (not with) Ms. Bracken, whose books were not only useful, but funny. Her take on housekeeping and cooking was that those activities should be as quick and simple as possible, leaving more time for other pursuits. Ms. Bracken was always adamant that she was not a proto-feminist, but her books paved the way for feminism. The idea that housekeeping and cooking were only parts of a woman's life, not the reason for a woman's life, was revolutionary in its time.
She'll be missed.
