happened upon an obit for peg....who wrote "the i hate to cook cookbook" & was featured in some commercial in the 60s. i don't recall the product.

I saw the write-up in yesterday's local paper. It was fairly extensive.

People associate Peg with ads for Bird's Eye but I'm pretty sure I remember a very low budget 60's ad for PAM by her also, where she introduced herself up front and advised that she wrote the "I Hate to Cook" book. She was so deadpan in her delivery that I never realized she had such a great sense of humor.

Oh sad. I have her "I Hate To Do Housework" (something along that line) book and it's not only hilarious but very educational.

I Hate That!

I did an interview on NPR only last December about (not with) Ms. Bracken, whose books were not only useful, but funny. Her take on housekeeping and cooking was that those activities should be as quick and simple as possible, leaving more time for other pursuits. Ms. Bracken was always adamant that she was not a proto-feminist, but her books paved the way for feminism. The idea that housekeeping and cooking were only parts of a woman's life, not the reason for a woman's life, was revolutionary in its time.

She'll be missed.
