Persil Revive was a home "dry cleaning" kit. Basically you had a big plastic bag with a zip lock seal at one end and a packet of treated sheets ( a bit like big baby wipes ). You put your item to be dry cleaned in the bag along with a sheet and popped it in the dryer on high heat, for the life of me I can't remember how long for though. There was another brand of "dry cleaning" product that was the same but I forget the name. I think they were withdrawn as the didn't really work, they were ok for freshening things up but didn't actually clean, also you could only do one item at a time. A friend used one in his washer dryer and almost ruined a suit jacket and thought he had set in creases, luckily the dry cleaners was able to rectify the problem.

The other tumble dryer dry cleaning product around at a similar time was called SVIT. Catchy name, eh! Possibly about as effective as spit...

True dry cleaning is the immersion of garments into a solvent solution "charged" with a bit of water. Chucking items into a bag with a wet cloth then into a dryer isn't the same thing.

Thus far your thread pertains to the history of Persil as sold by Unilever (formerly Lever Brothers) in the UK. Persil actually goes back a bit further (as mentioned partially by Moi above) with the invention of the original by Henkel.

Persil Automatic was Launched in the 70s sometime
Persil Non Biological released in 1984
Persil Liquid came out in 1987/1988
Concentrated Persil came out in 1991 as did Persil Colour
Concentrated Persil reformulated in 1992 as Persil Micro System/Smaller Compact Liquid Released
In May 1994, they released Persil Power which then got scrapped because of damage to clothes, and reformulated in 1995 as New Generation Persil.
In 1995 Persil Finesse, was launched for wool and delicates.
In 1996, it was called Persil Automatic, and in 1997, the Persil Liquid was reformulated to help work deeper into clothes.
In 1997 Persil renamed to include - Persil Performance (bio), Persil Non Biological, and Persil Colour changed to Persil Colourcare.
In 1998, Persil Tablets were launched, initially as one layer tablets, but then they were reformulated as two layer tablets.
In 1999, Persil extended its range to include, Persil Colourcare tablets and Persil Non Biological Tablets in its line up.
In 2001, Persil Capsules released
In 2002, Persil Changed its formula to include Fizzing action into its Bio Powders and Tablets.
In 2003, Persil Liquids replaced to Persil Liquigels, also 2003 was the year Persil Aloe Vera was released.
In 2007, Persil Launched Persil Gel Tablets and it was the year Persil Small and Mighty was Released (March 2007)
In 2010, Persil Capsules were Compacted meaning you only needed one per wash rather than two.

Until Ariel automatic came along in the early 80s Persil auto plodded on as a non bio although it wasnt called so nor marketed as so.
Ariel biological changed the market thus needing Persil to change the auto formula to biological NEW SYSTEM PERSIL.
Hoards of people were complaining of rashes and allergies Mums at the top of the queue raving about the enzymes not previously used were causing these issues.

I ALWAYS recommend Persil. Both myself and my Mum use it regularly. It's on a par with Ariel in terms of washing results.
