How hot is your HOT? I have one set of white towels, the rest are dark of different dark colors and I have been using a temp of 120F on them with no problem.   I don't use universal  on the dark because it contains bleach.  The rinsing is not a pure as the non towel load but considering that most towels are cotton and made in such a way as to contain much more cotton than say a shirt or tee shirt I don't have a problem with the way the towels get rinsed.  Not as clean as a cotton shirt, but not a problem either.

@ jerrod6 hot water is 130F

which may also explain why your towels rinse better. This past summer has been warmer than usual 38-40 celsius so I used warm water since the cold water was not so cold, the warm water was warmer thinking it worked well, well at least I thought it did until I had the sudsing issue again.Seems the hot water did work, maybe once a month with hot water will keep any residue from building, it is worth trying to avoid the obvious.I'm also wondering if I reduced the load size if it would make a difference?
Funny part is I use the megaperls for colors on the colored towels with no problem at all, so are you using megaperls on your dark towels ?
