Sorry haven't said much about my ironer woes lately, but have been keeping mum for two reasons:

One, had a few things on the fire and did'nt wish to tempt fate to put the jinx on things.

Two, one really does not belive in wailing one's woes out in public. Best to press on and make do.

Being as all this may, the ironer is now fixed!

Long story short, was able to liason with a senior Pfaff person who provided information on determining what was wrong with the appliance and what parts would be required to remedy the damage. Next was put in contact with a Pfaff technician who trained in Germany and more important knew of the ironers.

Ordered parts from Europe, and last week Pfaff technican arrived (two of them actually), and though my German (both spoke English and German to each other), is limited, was able to have a great old time while they repaired my ironer.

As was related to me by my Secret Squirrel in Germany (YOU know who you are), it was VERY good for me these wonderful technicans offered to do an in house service call as it was. Removing the ironer roll was NOT something one without knowledge could have done easily as it pretty much involved opening up much of the unit, disconnecting electrical cords and switches, and taking off the roller with European Hex keys, (which were rather long).

Any who, once the ironer was apart, the problem was as I originally thought and the senior Pfaff person confirmed. A plastic gear wheel had broken, and was quickly replaced. Once that was done the very nice gentlemen cleaned up the roller (it was now totally apart with the insides where the motor and gears lie outside), then put the roller back together, and returned it to the unit.

But wait, they weren't finished yet, my unit was given a good going over, with issues I hadn't even suspected or bothered about addressed. Was shown little tricks and tips, and while some small problems could not be addressed, (parts were not ordered as one didn't know)this time, will order them to have on hand if and when the two are ever in my neck of the woods again.

Haven't had a chance to really do much ironing yet, as been too busy with other work, but from the limited testing done after repairs were complete, the unit works a treat!

I want to take a moment and give a shout out to all the members who offered such kind words of support and comfort. Especilly Panthera who went well above and beyond!

All told paid more for the whole enterprise, incudingl long distance and over seas telehone calls, parts, labour and such than origianlly paid for the unit itself, but was well worth it IMHO. As stated several problems one never thought to address are now cured, so the unit works better than it did upon arrival.

Methinks shall start an export-import business scouring Germany and bringing Pfaff ironers to the United States, am sure there is a huge market for them

Ciao for now,

L.

Sorry, No Snaps

Things happened so quickly, that is date for service appointment arrived and men came early in the AM, so wasn't even thinking.

The area where the ironer is located is rather small, and though was enough for the men to do their thing, thought best if one let them at it and just stayed out of the way.

As Pfaff officially does not deal with the ironers located outside the EU, not sure if either person would wish their activities put onto the worldwide web.

You were so right about the "waltz" being heavy, another reason one wished to stay out of harms way. Do wish had taken a picture of the broken cam wheel, but they took that away as well. Not sure why? Will ask if one can have it back, it may be on it's way back to Germany by now. Considering I paid for and had the thing sent from over seas, you would think they would have handed me it back, but no. Honestly was so thrilled with ironer being back in service, didn't wish to rock the boat.

Great repair story, L! I bet you're excited to use it again. I used my Ironrite over the weekend and although it works like a charm, I still long for one of those pretty Miele units. If your Pfaff is anything like those, it's a dream to use.

Now you're ready for your very own Unimatic - you'll do great!

Oh Honey!

Have two ironers at the moment, Pfaff and Ironrite. In the past have owned two or three more including Thor Gladiron.

My Ironrite is the small portable 890 model, and is really good for small items like napkins, kitchen towels and pillow slips. Roller width is just too small. Also without a variable speed, the only way to control feeding Ironrite ironers is to stop the roller.

Pfaff vs Miele,

No, the Pfaff units are based upon the old ironrite design, but instead of having the gearcase and motor behind the roller, it is moved inside the roller. Indeed there are early Pfaff ironer models that are the spit of my Ironrite portable 890.

Let two or three local Miele ironers pass by, they were on offer quite close but am used to Pfaff/Ironrite method of ironers. It's like the old Ironrite marketing materials used to say, Ironrites by design and function are better ironers, well at least to me.

Have used top feeding ironers before (Beatty and Thor Ironers), and it is much easier to feed material under a roller than above. Mind you Miele, like most other German mangels have a feeding board to make things a bit easier.

Have posted pics of Pfaff Ironers before, here is a link to a current eBay.de auction.

Congratulations!

Nice to hear that you've got the Pfaff back in good health. Although the process was onerous and expensive, at least you now have more knowledge about your ironer, and knowledge is power!
