I am in lust for this Philco set! Judging from the cabinet design, is this the last Philco oscillating agitator desgin before they introduced the Automagic? So this would be a 1958 model? Anyone know fo sho?

Peter, i thought the same thing looking at this machine. I would love to have one of the old agitator Philcos.
BTW, to Peter or Robert or anyone, was the agitator in this POD washer very similar to the recent twin wringer washers we have seen from Dexter?

I have to agree with all of you this would be a wonder machine to have. I don't think I have ever seen this model before. You have to love that dryer door!! Terry

ditto all

I'd love to see it. Wonder if anyone in the club has that agitator.

Agi, Did Dexter evolve from Philco?

I am not sure if these 2 companies were the same or not. I ask because a member here a while back had found an agitator Philco and the agi in it looked very much the same as what the Dexter wringers used.

I think this is a chicken or egg story, as both Dexter and Philco had wringers. I have a feeling that Dexter was the original wringer company, and Philco sourced wringers from them. However, Philco was ahead of the game in the automation department, and Dexter ended up sourcing their automatics from them. Dexter faded away as they never had much market share, but then resurfaced with the remnants of the Philco-Bexdix commercial hardmount washers, and took off in the coin-op world.

Peter, I agree with you, Dexter and Philco seem to be kind of ambiguous with both their wringers and their automatics. This is my Dexter Automatic, which is the mechanical twin to a Philco Automagic. I believe that this is a 1959 Dexter judging from the dates stamped on the inside panels......Its still kind of a cloudy to me whether this is a Philco design with a Dexter name on it, or a Dexter design with a Philco name on it.......I tend to go with the latter, that Dexter made it and badge engineered the Philco name on it....Or could Bendix have had something to do with it too? Either way its a fabulous machine to watch..........!!!

Jimmy,

You were so lucky to find that rare gem. I think it is funny that the 'short cycle' appears to take the same total amount of time as the 'standard cycle' and that the only short thing about it is the 3 minutes of wash time. How is the short cycle short?
