I would sure like to have a set of these wards signature machines in avocado or copper tone. There was a Montgomery Ward about an hour from here but there were very few homes here with Wards appliances. There was a sears store 20 minutes away since the mid 70’s so that’s where most appliances came from in the area. The wards signature set is one that I definitely haven’t run across in searching for the collection.

We had this set in the 80's. It was a beautiful set. The washer was great and could be programmed for a gentle wash with a fast spin, which was used a lot. I'll admit that the washer was ultra noisy, especially the bang of the solenoid for the brake.
The matching dryer was another story. The heat was blown into the dryer instead the being sucked out of it. It often blew the door open when the lint filter started to fill up. This made for a lot of lint on clothes and inside the dryer itself, though it kept up with the washer. They were sold with our house when we moved.

My Mom had a Montgomery Ward upright freezer that sat in the garage for well over forty years.  She eventually gave it to one of my brothers.  I don't know what happened to it after that, but forty plus years of use is the marque of quality in my book!

Seems like positive air flow dryers seem to accumulate lint very fast in a short amount of time. One good thing I have heard about positive air flow dryers is they can dry fairly quickly at lower temperatures

Always though these were very handsome machines. Would give any Lady Kenmore a run for the money in the looks department. My mom had a 20 LB. Norge in the mid 70s. I remember the Norge by Feeders on the console and the 3/4 HP designation. As loud as it was it was my mother's favorite washer she said. Looking back I wish I had that obnoxiously loud machine today.

That was one heck of an excellent washer. My mother had one of late 60's model with the lint filter towards the back of the drum. It would wash anything clean first time. It was loud and used tons and tons of water....but who was counting gallons back then?!?! I'd be proud to have that today.

Gotta Love Wards/Norge!

I have a ‘75 Wards Signature 12 cycle washer in my collection (in Harvest Gold, no less!) and it’s my absolute favorite.  It must be a a couple of steps down from the amazing 14 cycle washer in today’s ad.  Yes, these machines outwash anything today and yesterday.  Amazing turnover, vigorous agitation and decent spin speed.  Noisy, yes, but at least we know they are doing something...and what a beautiful noise it is!

Compared to today’s washers the Norge built wards washers are noisy but that doesn’t bother me a bit. They are true machines. Even though the dryers had a bad rap for blowing lint everywhere I still find them to be neat as well. Maybe one day I’ll run across a set in decent condition.
