GE attempts to outdo everyone else with this machine. It does dispense most everything one could possibly need for a washing machine. The dispensal does tend to build up with soaps and other additives though and would need a routine cleaning on occasion. I do like the controls, they are totally flexible as to water temp and speed combinations. GE had a bad tendency to splash water and soap up as they washed making the top of the machine, lid and surrounding area prone to rust and decay. Their tubs, both inner and outer were prone to that too. It is an impressive looking washer that does a lot. The load size of even the 18 lb. machine was somewhat smaller than several other machines at the time. The mechanism was rather antiquated and the clutch was overly complex to achieve two speeds in comparison to most other machines and it used a great deal of water. It did do an adequate job of washing, rinsing and spinning the clothes for a machine of that era. The dryers sold usually as matching, were somewhat undersized for the 18 lb. washer. I was never that impressed with GE washers and dryers.

Isn't this the washer that can do a soak followed by two washes and two rinses? Guess that means it can join my Speed Queen in the '110 Gallon Club.' LOL

Never Seen One.

I have never seen one of these in person and from the pictures, I don't understand how the mechanism knew when to feed the proper chemical. Was there a motorized change to the water path to accomplish dispensing? Somebody please explain...

A diverter mechanism changes the FilterFlo flow on a three-way flume.

Soak (or Prewash) Agent or main wash Detergent if Soak or Prewash options aren't used - dumps directly into the filter pan.  Water flow from the center flume, directly into filter pan (not through Dispensall tray).

Granular Detergent - used for the main wash if Soak or Prewash is also used.  Water flow from right flume, flushes Granular Detergent into the filter pan.  Some water is also sent into the bleach dispenser to flush it.

Softener - water flow through left flume to flush softener.

Once you put in your clothes, and the detergent, bleach, and fabric softener, and start the washer, could you still open the lid and add some clothes? Or was that out of the question because all your liquids would start dripping everywhere from the dispensall system ?

I asked the same question at some point in the past and the answer was yes; you can open the lid and the contents will remain in the dispenser. I can't recall who provided the answer.

I'm glad it's a fairly top-of-the-line machine that's featured, but I wonder if this can be put on basic machines?

Also the last control layout before GE eliminated the Warm Wash/Warm Rinse; dislike the later control panels most-likely for that reason, or during that period...
