I found this on Kijiji. I don't think I've ever seen one like this before. If I'm not mistaken, it looks a bit "Hooverish".

I saw a lot of them in Italy
throughout the 70's and early '80s.
A dryer in Italy, I know, I know.
They used a several-segment carbon based bushing in the front as a bearing for the drum and a very thin belt to drive the fan off of a second pulley on the back of the drum.
Very simple and worked quite well.
