I've always found the open to the right lid on Philco washers somewhat interesting and different. I remember when I was a kid in 1967, and saw one at Cashway home improvement center (they went out of business around the early-mid '90's).

What was the reasoning for this? Was it to be totally different from other washers (I know the "blender" type agitator was unique)? And when did they start doing this or has it always been this way?

I think Philco dryer doors opened to the left...

The POD model was the last year for their conventional oscillating agitator machine, 1958. The Automagic flapaltor was introduced in '59.
