Pro Scrub feature on K/A dishwasher

Today I took apart and cleaned the water line going from the sump to the middle wash arm and up to the upper arm. I also cleaned what is called the 'proscrub' apparatus at the back of the tub. Turns out it is nothing but plastic with no valves so I am wondering how does this feature work? There is a proscrub button on the control pad but since there is no type of valve to control the flow of water to the 4 proscrub nozzles, what does turning on the proscrub button actually do?

Here is a video I watched to see how to take apart the entire tubing assembly. Starting at about 1:40 into the video you will see where the guy begins to disassemble the plastic water feed which goes from the sump to the top of the machine and shows the proscrub apparatus at the back of the dishwasher. You can see that the proscrub just snaps off and is nothing but a piece of plastic with 2 inlets for the water and then the 4 round shaped disks where the water exists. Since water is constantly being fed through the tubing I would think that the water would always be sprayed through the holes in the proscrub device. So what does turning on the proscrub button on the console do?

We own a Bauknecht dishwasher, which is nowadays a Whirlpool subsidiary. It features the power clean function which is also a device in the back of the machine. The button turns that on and I believe it works. But it is only to clean one or two items facing to the back...
 
I took the apart the entire water feed line that goes from the centre of the machine where it feeds the lower arm, along the bottom, up the back and across the top of the machine. This is the only feed line. There are no valves contained inside, so the water has to be flowing constantly which also means that both the middle wash arm and the bottom wash arm are working at the same time - there is no alternating flow.
 
No, you see in the vid to that the lower arm has kind of, yeah, peak in the middle and it is fed over that line. But maybe the pressure is just increased and anyhow only that way it starts spraying. But why don't you try? Run a cycle without the option and then open up the door fast. If it is just alibi function, it should already spray.
 
My Kenmore elite has the same feature by another name. When you select the option water is somehow diverted from eaching toe wash arm under the top rack and is sent to the turboZone/ProScrub jets. It does this once during the prewash for 2 minutes and then for about 20 minutes during the main wash. Has quite a bit of calcium bildup which indicates that could be his problem too. He needs to run Lemi-Shine through an empty dishwasher pots & pans cycle.

I won't post that here, since I'll probably be chased with pitch-forks, flaming torches and 140ºF water shooting from Hydro-Sweep washarms on SureTemp KA's.

On my K/A I don't see how water could possibly be diverted from the middle & top wash arms to the jets in the back since there is no type of valve in the tubing. I took all the pieces of the tubing apart and it is just one hollow tube.

This is strange indeed!

Probably it only works with alternating spray arms, which I believe is a newer feature on Euro dishwashers, probably for ten years now. But you should investigate further, I recommend.
 
Normaly, the water-diverder here in the EU is built into or near the pump and is just like a screen with different holes in it which can be turned: like one whole going to the top, one to the bottom, and at one time only one is opend. I think it was somehow like that...
 
My machine has the Pro-scrub option. I have only used it a few times. I don't know the mechanics but it does divert the water to the back spray jets somehow or the other. I question how a stationary spray can do much, but it is used to concentrate the static spray with the moving spray of the lower arms (4). Selecting this option adds about 20-40 minutes to the cycle.

Kitchenaid is not the same as when Hobart owned them, but it is a good cleaning machine, and one of the top performers.
 
I have only used the pro scrub option a few times also and it does work. I just wonder if it is always turned on. I just might try putting in a dirty casserole dish, face it towards the proscrub jets but not turn on the proscrub button and see what the results are.

without a diverter valve of sorts.....I am thinking it is always on......the "option" selected would be like a pots and pan cycle.....just extended longer when selected.....it doesn't actually turn that part of the jets on and off....

and offset gimmick.....it does work...but the impression was that it only turns on when that option button is selected, and maybe some models do go from wash arm to wash arm and then power zone.....this might not be one of them....and youwould proabably have never noticed until this issue came up.....

would be interesting to get a plexiglas front for it to see what is happenning.....

or better yet Gary..do you have a water proof video camera and a few flashlights.....put that inside and view what happens...really curious at this point....

another reason why dishwashers, like washers, need windows to see what is going on inside......and probably a reason why the dont have them!
