Problems with a Maytag Performa Model PAV2300AWW

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi,

My friend has a Maytag PAV-2300AWW that he got as a part of an estate settlement with the house he bought. Anyway the basement had flooded and it was in about 1-2" of water for between 1-2 days several years ago.

Now when you turn it on, the tub will not spin, although the motor is turning and the pulley on the bottom of the transmission is spinning. There is no noise or movement in the transmission at all. I have disassembled the tub and I can not find anything obvious.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? How much could it cost to fix? He does not want to spend a lot to get it fixed, and would rather get a new one if it is going to be a problem.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Matt

Much of this will depend on when your Maytag was made. It sounds to me like an internal transmission problem, and the transmission is essentially the machine its self. It's the part that usually sends newer Kenmores, Whirlpools, and Maytags to the crusher. Some of these brand new machines end up being replaced with something considerably older. Look for some listings for wringer washers on EBay, you'll notice that their prices have tripled in just the last four years! To me, that's a bad omen. It means that the new machines aren't rinsing and cleaning properly, and this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Anyway. Again, take a look at what year the machine was made. If it's before the new government mandates stared in 2007, then it's probably worth fixing as long as the transmission is still good. However, if it's a 2008 model and the warranty is already voided, then it's essentially worth less than its scrap value, even if the issue is minor such as the need for a new timer. Good luck.

A new one on me Calling RCD for Performa HELP

All of mine that wont spin have been stuck brake or frozen transmission issues usually due to being in damp basements. Peformas really like to rust. Does it agitate?

I'll ask a question or two:

1)You said that if you turn the trans pulley it won't spin. What does it do if you turn the pulley in the agitate direction?

2)Do you get any bearing noise from the machine when it's running ( I know, it's not spinning)?

Let me know and I can try to help...

Jay, It's good to see you posting again! What ever happened to the Neptune?

Bad tranny, or thrust bearing. If your turning it in agitate "mode" You will have to watch or have somebody watch for you. The motions are very slow if doing by hand.
Can you fill it and turn it on? Any hook-ups? (water and power..lol) Or are just trying to figure if worth the fix before you take it home with you?

RCD Thank You

Andy, it is still a work in progress. Thank you so much. I m so and a procrastinator. But as soon as it is finished pictures will be posted. I ve actually been doing major job hunting and thinking of going to HVAC school.
