I was just wondering how many sets of sheets you put into a load? Do you wash them by themselves or with other items? Do you always use the highest water level when you wash your sheets?

Two queen sized sets at at time. With 8 pillowcases.
(I change pillowcases mid-week).
I machine dry them seprately also. The fitted bottom sheet tends to gather-up ball up with other items and make drying difficult.

Will depend on a number of factors
The size of the sheets
The size of the machine
As A general rule a twin sheet will weigh out around 1 lb
a double 1.5 to 2 a Queen 1.75 to 2.50 and a King from 2 to 3 lbs. Heavy soil loads should be underloaded by 10% to allow for extra cleaning action. a top load machine will not wash as many as a front load machine. Pillowcases really should not be washed with sheets unless you use the heavy soil cylce as they are alway more heavy soilded than the sheets are. And will tend to discolor if not washed well. In the LG machines we wash 18 hospital sheets or 6 king size hotel sheets if we have sheets left over from the large washers.

An EU sized FL (49/53 litres drum) holds 3 single bed sets or a double bed set plus a single bed set, being light cotton the fabric sheets are made of.
One of my granny's heavy vintage linen double sets fills the drum by itself.
I guess the 93 litres Duets can manage the double of std EU frontloaders
Manuals recommend to mix big and small items to improve both tumbling effectiveness and distribution before spinning
Levels .... modern FLs set by themselves the proper level, anyway pushing the water plus option (or similar) is not a bad idea in case of Bobloads
As for VH toploaders, I only know that some machines (the Cabrios I guess) have a program tailored for sheets and big towels. Agitation is done in a particular way to avoid tangling

You can put two fitted, two flats and 4 pillowcases all around that beautiful agitator,
fill to the brim and let it soak and stroke till they come clean.
If your king size machine cannot handle one Queen then you must have a princess of a machine!
Get rid of the tramp and find yourself hard working girl who will do it all like the round the way girl Whirlpool
or that happy hooker Kenmore who has done more over the years.

Us lonely singles...
Only wash one queen >snicker< set weekly. With an STPP boost, no worry about pillowcases not coming clean. I usually put in 2-3 bath towels to complete the load.

2 queen sets with matching pillow cases. Each set is dried separately.

How I "DO" sheets:
Send them all to Guatemala with Rosario for the Holidays for her peasant realtives to wash, then I fill the washer with vodka and ice, hit spin dry and drink from the hose.

I can get 4 queen sheets, plus 8 pillow cases in my 5.5kg Miele, I line dry usually as even with reverse tumble and splitting the load everything ends up balled up in the fitted sheet in the dryer.
The other way is 2 sheets and 4 pillow cases at a time, and split the towel load in half and do half with each load of sheets.
We spend approx 5 hours a week ironing, between, 10-12 dress shirts and another 8 or so Polo's, plus 50 hankies, 8 pillow cases and 20 T Towels. The rumples from overloading just dont bother me anymore, I just plough through all of it.
Having been partnered off for almost 6 years now and the convienience of seperate bedrooms, I dont tend to have to worry about staining either, thus I can wash full loads.

In the Zanussi/Westinghouse 6.5kg....
- 2 cotton queen size sheets, 4 pillow cases and Queen size duvet cover....on 40 degree quick wash...68min...
When I bought the Electra in 1994, Hoover stated that it could wash 8 single cotton sheets.....oh for the days of higher water levels...
