AKA "The Prince of Perc".

I just found an unusual Pyrex glass percolator, a small 2-4 cups-sized version and took it home and cleaned it. It was so damn pretty and sparkly that it persuaded me to use it the next morning and I tried my first pot of percolated coffee in over 20 years. UGH! I am ashamed to say I don't know what I'm doing. I need detailed grandmotherly take-me-by-the-hand instructions if you'd be so kind.

Pyrex glass percolator

I used to have the same model it makes delicious coffee. I purk my coffee a lot. I have the 9 cup Pyrex glass percolator that I don't use much. I would use about 3 scoops of coffee for your model.

The coffee was bad. I don't know how to use a percolator, I guess. I measured the coffee into the basket, I brought the whole thing to a boil, waited for the perking to start and when the water started to take on color, turned down the heat and waited for the coffee to turn the right color. It was dishwater. Was so worried about burning it I guess I didn't let it perk enough? Are there any tricks to this.

Don't we already have a Prince(ss) of Perc?

And I dont mean good old-fashioned dry-cleaning fluid!

A standard coffee cup is 6 oz /173ml (3/4 cup of water).
[I beleive coffee cans give simialar insructions using tablespoons (45ml) as well.

For each TWO cups of coffee ( 6 oz) use ONE standard coffee measure (1/8th cup?)

For a larger coffeemaker my aunt would "add one (scoup) for the pot"

Start with tap cold.

Percolate/brew for 5 minutes or until "the coffee smells" [up the room].

Have fun! It took me years to figure it out, and once it stuck *BOOM* excellent coffee!

Not so sure about the 2 TBSLP being 1/8 cup though. Can you clarify? lol

Anyway......Most coffee officinados claim that PERKING is the worst way to make coffee.... Ducks, and Runs. lol

I my self cannot perk a small pot of good perked coffee. However.....when I perk in my West Bend Stainless Party perk for 55 cups, the coffee comes out really good and the guests always commint on it. But......I know we drink a lot of coffee, but 55 cups is a bit much to do daily. lol lol

I guess I am doing something wrong in a smaller pot? Our friends add a little salt or sugar. This does help.

Yes Ray is right, 2tbsp. per 6oz. of fresh cold water. Turn heat down far enough so the coffee continues to gently perc. Brew for 5-8 minutes.

Briki (ibrik) =coffee pot
Flitzan(i) = demi-tasse cup

You must let the "mud" settle beofre drinking!

One normally specifes medium, sweet or super-sweet and the person making the coffee asjusts the amount of sugar.

This is always served with a tall glass of water, as coffee this strong is a major dehydrator !

shssss don't tell her it's really Turkish coffee.......

Msuic is Gyftopoula by Glykeria / Glikeria
"Gypsy girl" by the singer Glykeria. The root of her name means "Sweetness!"

Fortune-telling is considered to be the Gypsy thing!
