I have an old wringer washer, J model. I have been trying to pull the wringer head off, and tugged and pulled and twisted to no avail. Is there a trick to this that I can't seem to conquer. I get it about 6 or 8 inches up, and it seems to be caught or attached somehow. I wanted to see if I could find out as to why the rollers only work in one direction. I can wring clothes forward, but when I go to reverse, it just kind of clunks and doesn't keep turning the rollers.

I've never had one stick. Have you tried moving the wringer to another position before lifting? Geoff Delp is the expert here, and when he sees this, my bet is he'll have the answer.

Wringer head

Thanks for the reply. I had just heard that the handle on the head needs to be in the neutral position, or facing towards the rollers in order to be able to pull off the wringer. I will give this a go, but after I do a bit of laundry first. Strangely enough, my automatic whirlpool washer died last night. Pile of unspun clothes in the machine, and cannot get the machine to spin. Too many martinis last night to bother working on the problem, but will play today. Hoping it is a simple fix like a fan belt fell off, otherwise will be using the wringer washer to finish the weeks laundry until my next stretch of a couple days off from work.

Of course, you have to have the wringer OFF to get it off.

No wringing while you're martini-ing. LOL

Good luck on the Pool. Hope it's minor.

Well I used the Maytag today to do three wash loads, only took 3 1/2 hours. I tried again with the wringer head, and I was able to get it off. I think the grease was the problem as it was hardening. Running the machine loosened it up. Now I can check a couple things I've been wanting to on it. Also need to work on the rubber wheel that runs the pump. Doesn't seem to pump too fast.

HI, I just had a bit of trouble with my Maytag pump too, no water at all would come out. Maybe it is plugged up with old crud from hard water, soap etc.?
If that is the case, try using CLR and hot water. See if helps.
