Blue means clean.

That's such a beautiful machine. I am so sick of white/gray vinyl-coated dishwasher racks. Blue vinyl inside a white porcelain or porcelain tub, to me, is classic Automatic Dishwasher. I can't wait for them to bring that back. It's one reason I love the Waste King/Thermador machines, those blue vinyl racks against the stainless tub. And then, of course, there's the elusive KDSS-17a.

Unless, of course, you were giving me a pink Plastisol GE pull-out or Mobile Maid dishwasher. Then all would be well.

I disagree. Blue is so ... blah on a DW rack.

I've got to have the yellow of the mid KMs dishwasher racks.

I will agree that gray is blah, too.

I think blue is very blah. I got so sick & tired of seeing blue. It started with our 1959 as well as 1968 Waste King. Had it on every dishwasher in every apartment duiring college and after college; the Tappan/GE Potscrubber when I built my 2nd home in 1985; the 1984 Hotpoint that was here when I moved into this house and the 1986 PotScrubber that replaced the Hotpoint. The ONLY deviation to the blue theme was the avocado and yellow racks for the two rotoracks bought in 1971 and 1973, respectively, and the 1980 Kenmore that was in my first house (also yellow racks). I actually kind of like the dark grey, less likelihood of showing red from tomato sauced dishloads. I don't think blue looks as good as grey does with SS interiors. Too stark!!

Similar machine, 12 years later

I was trying to find information on my beloved Maytag washing machine, & stumbled onto this thread of 12 years ago.

Does anyone in the Boston area want it?

We've been told it finally can not be fixed. While not the quietest machine, I am so sad to finally retire it. AND, hate to think Home Depot may be the ones to haul it away. (We are having a hard time finding the machine(s) we want in stock anywhere else).

History: We acquired this machine with the condo we bought in 2000. I expect it was original to the unit, which was built (converted warehouses) in 1979. But, maybe they didn't add it until 1983. It looks exactly like yours. At the time, I thought I would update this appliance within a year. It was working, but the cycle timer was broken. My Dad said that it could easily be fixed. The repairman said, 'Do not ever replace this machine unless you are told it can not be fixed.' He claimed it was the best machine ever made. So, we kept it. And, it has been great. We have to rinse the dishes, but I consider that a minor issue. He visited us a few times over the past 20+ years, and if my memory serves, it was to fix a belt. Recently, it started making much more noise than usual, & doesn't clean well. We called our repair service & I was sad to learn the person we'd had in the past had retired.

A new (young) person came, took one look at it, & said it probably can't be fixed, if only because parts would no longer be available. He listened to it, said he thought it was something in the motor, and that it wasn't worth it.

So, that's the story. I wish I knew how to fix it, but I have no skills. We will be replacing it in about a week. If anyone would like it, please let me know.

While not as pristine as the machine you posted pictures of, considering the life of this one, it deserved to be documented, too!
