This is what she looked like in the used appliance store. Not too bad for it's age and all..

I paid $100.00 for it

Installed in our kitchen..

One Friday night we put the doors back together. Used new insulation, a new grounded cord, and new gaskets. Oh... And new paint, with a new colour... The next week we brought it in the house and have been using it ever since. (about 1 month) We LOVE it!!

Refrigerator section. Sort of packed also... <:

But we both think it is worth it, because the styling of this fridge is so unique! One learns to pack smartly, with no shelves in the doors. And make good use of the bins at the bottom.

Lower compartment

Has the freezer control located down here. One opens the kick panel at the bottom to gain access to the control. The dial goes up to 9, and we have it set on 4.

This freezer gets much colder than my WCI Kelvinator ever did!

The ice tray shelves have refrigeration coils under them. This is a VERY well built refrigerator! Think "TANK"!

Very nice!

It's the highly desirable separate freezer model also.

I have a GE fridge from the same or almost the same year. But it's a single door, with one of those tiny freezers that would be hard-pressed to fit in a 1/2 gallon container of ice cream, lol. Still, it has a meat bin right under the freezer, which can be a nice option if you like keeping your meat, or the meat of a good friend, as fresh as possible.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

The fridge was repainted in automotive grade paint, by a professional automobile painter who is a very good friend of mine. They paint high dollar import cars, and do restorations of classic cars. My friend Tim, had the fridge for almost a year before he got to it. It's ok because he is worth waiting for. He is very picky about what he sends out the door, be is a car, or one of my washers. <:

I have pixs of the original owners manual also. I will post the owners manual tomorrow night.

Good night all! <:

Breathtaking! My Philco is drooling for that paint job. I know what you mean by "tank", it ain't like you can just slide it out to clean behind it.

Really a stunning fridge now . . .

I mean, these GE combos are already beautiful machines, but that paint job is really top notch.

So since this is your main fridge, how often are you finding you need to defrost it?

Wow, that restoration sure came out with stunning results!!

Here's to a another 51 years of service

great job!

Love the color!- nice job! I have the same fridge...it's one of the first 2 door models. And, you are right- definitely a TANK!

F A N T A S T I C

Once you have used this a while, and see how much better your vegetables and meats keep with no fan to dry them out you will never go back to a modern fridge again...also your power bill will go down because you arent running a heater to melt frost then the compressor to make up for the heat generated to defrost, its not too much trouble to defrost,I defrost my 63 Hotpoint about twice a year, I sure wish it looked like this!!!

Amazing Restoration and amazing restorer

Rick, I am in awe and admiration of the meticulous care you take of your belongings. Your home is always gleaming and a tribute to your craft and skill as a restorer. Moreover the tender care you show to your son and the many friends that come to your home is nothing short of Nobel Prize worthy. You are an amazing man, Rick and I am proud to say it boldly. Everytime you start a thread I know it will be spell binding. Merry Christmas, you deserve a big present.

Gorgeous!

That is really a super paint job! I'm curious about the new gaskets, since they tend to be shot on almost all the old fridges I come across. Were these some sort of repros or a good universal?

That is simply amazing !!!!!
How did you do it Rick ?
I will show all of my old colleges.
They will freak out. There is a fridge that my former colleges are selling now a Ariston Retro fridge which is about 2000 dollers and does not look have as good and has not the best mechanics inside shameful.
Very nice Rick.

Rick - looks fantastic. The finish work looks to be top-notch. You've got yourself quite a paint guy there!

Very interesting to see the subtle differences between the '48 and the '51. I like that you have a light in the freezer. What gasket did you use? I'll be in need of a new one for the fridge compartment soon.
