Am I cursed or Blessed?
So, I left this machine at an estate sale with Mark on Friday. Blane suggested we go get it for parts which he convinced me so on Sunday. Had it here, (you saw the pics) ready to bust apart and Mark sent me a text which read "What are the odds?" with a link to the MINT matching dryer on Craigslist, very reasonably priced.
I have been really proud of myself as I have been cleaning things out and greatly reducing in many areas of my life but I gave in so now I have an upcoming restoration. The good thing is I do have some nice parts, and was about to break down another Kenmore with a nice cabinet and such to use on this.
This set was across the street from me when I was growing up, the same people still live there, although the w&d are long gone. I remember her teaching Julie (their oldest daughter) how to wash clothes while I was there one time. I remember it so well because she showed her how to start the machine, told her to wait for the fill and when it started to agitate she could add the soap, and then the clothes. This was different than how my Mom and Grandmother's did it, as they loaded the clothes, put the soap in, closed the lid, set the controls and started the machine. The way Julie was taught probably made good sense to dissolve the soap before going into the pump, is that how Kenmore instructions suggested it?
Anyways, here is the 1962 set, complete with mint dryer and washer that needs some lovin!
