When were Kenmore washers and dryers made by GE....

This happened for a very short period of time. And shocked the heck out of me.

Plese tell me I'm not nuts!

GEMores

Toggle,

Although I haven't verified this, I once heard that BOL kenmores were made by GE, and the MOL and TOL machines were made by Whirlpool. I think this was during the 80's and 90's. Don't quote me, however.

I don't recall ever seeing a full size Kenmore washer or dryer made by anyone but Whirlpool. There were some WCI designed compact and portable machines I'v seen with a GE badge on them. Sears prolly sold those with the Kenmore name on them. Sears also sells the 24 inch and 27 inch laundry centers made by WCI with the Kenmore name on them.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

The only Kenmores Made by other than Whirlpool are the front loading washers (Not The He3t and He4t's) and their matching dryers. These dryers can be identified by a one piece drum rather than the traditional KM & WP drums where the back is stationary and only the outer cylinder spins. just take one of the fins and turn the drum, if the whole thing turns uniformly, It's not the real tamale, just don't bite it or it's mate. The He Front Loaders and Whirlpool Duets are Imported From Germany, and their mated dryers are made right here by whirlpool. I Hope This Helps.

I know it sound sacriligious (sp?)for Sears to rebadge GE washers & dryers.

But if Sears can do it with DW-ers. It's not impossible.

with DW-ers:

BOL was GE
MOL was WP
TOL was WP

Now BOL is Fridgi-lux!!

Actually, there was a Sears 24" stacked W/D. I'm not 100% positive, but this was made sometime in the 1980's.

It looked just like a Skinny-Mini, and was called the Kenmore "All-In-One" Laundry center. Annoyingly small tub, recirculating filter in the back, angel-wing agitator, "sorting fingers" in dryer. I see them on eBay all the time.

A rebadged "Kenmore Filter-Flo" would be something else! Kenny, were there actually GE-designed dryers sold under the Sears name?

Just think, if GE did actually make laundry machines for Kenmore, the Filter-Flo design would be different, causing them to neutral-drain instead! ;-)

If you guys come across any links/pic inc. flea-bay, I'd love to see them!

Sears also had a F/L way before they were popular (here). Wish I could recall the year but definitely post late 70's.

Greg- Did you sell appliances for Sears, as I did?

Hi Steve, Not sure of the year but I think in the late 70's early 60's Sears did have a front loader. It looked very much like a Westinghouse. I remember seeing them in the catalogs, no console and you could either build a counter over them or stack them. I am sure that I am not dreaming this. Someone with old Sears Catalogs may be able to confirm this. Terry

Thanks Terry-

I beleive I am thinking of a much later model year. Good to know they had done it before, twice!

Speaking of Sears catalogs, now that is a colleciton I would LOVE to have.. I would get to see pics of viantage appliances, without having to really have them..

[my anti-clutter thing....] my own "virtual" collection!

I am STILL in disbelief that SearS stopped their catalog.
At least put the darned thing online in the same (familiar)format!

Autstin:

YES a GE FF with a Kenmore badge....I mean even the "blindest" consumer would have been able to peg it as GE, no?

The hexagonal lid would be the first clue from across the room...need I go on?

Funny how we expect rebadging with Sears but not necessarily anyone else.

I guess if anyone wanted all their appliances to have one badge, Seasr woudl be the way to go sincee they use so many manufacturers as sources.

I still cant believe they will only service what has been bought at Sears. So in theory, the machines Ii bought at Sears that got left behind when I sold my last residence can no longer be serviced by Sears? Too strange.

servicing

"I still cant believe they will only service what has been bought at Sears. So in theory, the machines Ii bought at Sears that got left behind when I sold my last residence can no longer be serviced by Sears? Too strange."

That used to be the case, but I've seen ads for Sears on TV repaor where they say they will repair ANY brand.

oh they will...as long as it was bought at Sears.

So since things at Sears are referenced by phone #, how would the new purchasers of my old place have proof of purchase at Sears?

:-)

24

As an aside in referrence to 24" laundry centers. Here are two made by Whirlpool. The one on the left, badged as a WP and the other a newer Kenmore that's the same. I think only the 27" right now are Electrolux/Frigidaire/WCI are whatever they call themselves right now.

Sears Source Codes

I have a book somewhere that reveals each vendor under the Kenmore name, only one I know for sure is Whirlpool's and that is 110.

The source code is the first part of the model number.

When I was a driver for Trailways between 1992-1998, I used to drive up to Oneonta, NY and they had a Sears appliance outlet store there. I've spent some of my brief 30 minuet lunch hour there and the new right extra wide swing doors Kenmore's where not Whirlpool or GE products but Frigidaire's. Anyone who loves a Kenmore can spot this imposter a mile away because of the way the rear interior bulkhead was designed!

I think Whirlpool had problems with one of their over-seas factories (A Strike) and they had no choice but to farm the work out to Frigidaire to keep the people of Sears happy to avoid from losing a major account!
