Seeking top-load stackable Speed Queen

Did such an animal ever exhaust? I’ve been looking, and looking, and can’t find anything. I’m looking for a top-load, stackable, washer and dryer that will handle heavy loads. I loved my speed queen, but we lost it as part of an insurance claim. We have a Whirlpool set we absolutely love, but my wife wants the space of stackable.

I’d love to find a top-load stackable speed queen with an electric dryer.

Speed queen stack is only in front load. What you are looking for does not exist

I remember many years ago coming across a stacked washer and dryer where the washer was a top load machine. It was hinged on the front bottom edge of the washer, and had a handle across the top front. You would pull on the handle to tilt the washer forward to load. I thought it was the craziest thing, and figured you could only open it when there was no water inside. Can’t remember what brand. [this post was last edited: 11/13/2018-21:55]

you might have far better luck choosing/finding a stacked Whirlpool/Kenmore 27" ThinTwin...theres also a Maytag TL stacked, in digital and analog

just note: these TL may be listed as Large Capacity, but basically a standard capacity tub...

or going with the Speed Queen FL stacked pair...

at least you have a better chance with any one of these three for dependability and parts availability....

also in your search, factor in that you may have to travel or have one shipped

Goatfarmer that is super cool. Yogitunes we’ve looked at the speed queen front loaders, but have not been impressed with the way front loafers from other brands clean clothes. We have five kids, and to date none of the front loafers we’ve used can keep up. They have looooong cycles, and don’t get heavily soiled clothes clean. We’re nervous to drop $3k on a SQ FL and then have it not so the job we bought it to do.

Our 2017 SQ TL was fantastic, but it was lost as part of an insurance claim. We hated to see it go.

not everyone can have a setup like many of us....but I can so relate with having 10 kids myself, dealing with cloth diapers to greasy work clothes....

you may benefit from an additional machine.....a wringer has come in handy many times....but something like an additional portable machine, like an Avanti/MagicChef in a 1.7 or larger size, could really benefit someone in your case...

Yogitunes thank you! I would love to have ten kids! My wife isn’t there yet.

How does the Neptune perform? How does it handle cleaning heavily soiled loads?

I may be impartial, as I am a fan of the Neptunes...as I have 7 sets and a few spares...

they have been more than effective for what I have thrown at them....

granted my water heater is set at 180, 98% of the loads are either Hot or Warm, a good detergent, bleach, ammonia, borax, softener as needed....purging the line before starting...

normal loads take about 45 minutes...and the dryer falls within the same time frame...

there is no 'clean washer' cycle....to which if you follow the guidelines above, will never need one...

there are options of PreWash and Stain Cycle for heavily soiled laundry....extra detergent and an extra rinse really work well for this type of a cycle...

these operate with very little water in the beginning, which really super concentrates the detergent lather, and adds more as the cycle progresses...

note too, Neptunes and Frigidaire Gallery round door, were created way before the tight water restrictions took effect, these fall well below the Tier 1 guidelines, you really want to stay away from a Tier 2 or 3, the higher the number, the less amount of water used...

I also own/used other FLers, Frigidaire, SQ, LG, Whirlpool.....for the most part, all have been effective...pros and cons with each..

the main thing you want to do if picking out a used machine....plug it in and run a spin cycle, it should be silent, if not, move on...

I have to be faid and admit the Neptune is a great performer. Better than any top load washer on the market.

I’m cautious of the newer full size stackables. Six years ago we bought a Frigidaire full size top load stack set. We bought it brand new so there should have been no problems. Within 2 months they were out at the house installing a new bearing for the tub. Whenever it would go into a spin, about half way through the cycle it would make a loud banging noise as it was in full spin. It didn’t matter whether it was empty or full it still made the noise. The problem was that the service man wouldn’t stay around long enough to hear the sound. I finally talked the third technician who came out into hanging around long enough to hear it and got some results.
