Nope, Bewitched first aired showing that wonderful Kenmore portable dishwasher 40 years ago tonight! Funny how it seems that quite a few us washer fans are also Bewitched fans!
Robert, you are gonna make me get all teary eyed again! Can you imagine if we would have all lived in the same neighborhood! A wash-in night on Bewitched night ! Our moms would not have to worry about what we were doing after school, we would be at each others house doing the laundry. And I thought I was the only boy in the world that new how to do the laundry at such a young age. Mom was mortified when she first came home and discovered I had done the laundry......but quickly got used to the idea
I think I'm gonna ball myself. I didn't see that premier episode until Nick @ Nite. But I soon discovered Betwitched. The cars interested me more than the appliances for the first eason or so. then I discovered they had Frigidaire appliances. Tom, of course we all know about me and the 1948 Bendix at age two or so. But I consciously don't remember doing laundry until we moved into the new house 43 years ago this month with a laundry room. Then I got more involved, at age 7. And my mother was quite annoyed when I learned how to sort whites and colors a year or so later--mom wanted to just throw it all in.
My mom was impeccable with her wash. LOL, I remember her setting up the ironing board in front of the TV to watch the soaps.....while she proceeded to IRON everything in the house. Sheets and all.
Just an afterthought.....wondering how many Star Trek fans there were who also Loved the washing machines ?
Yes and I can't wait. I have so many of the other fun series on DVD such as the Munsters, Jetsons, Flintstones, Laugh-In, I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, etc. I can't be more thrilled to be able to finally get Bewitched on DVD.
I'm STILL waiting to see any news about the Brady Bunch on DVD. That's my "classic appliances" tv show set in my favorite time period, featuring my favorite colors.
Yes, I cannot wait for Bewitched either. I also have The Munsters, Flintstones, Gilligan's Island and Lost in Space. How would you like to have Maureen Robinson's washer that also folds and wraps the clothes?
Wow-GESwivel: I have those same 60's TV show DVDs-just got vol#1 of Lost In Space season#2 last week.In season two-one of the episodes Shows Maureen using a dishwasher-you put the dirty unrinsed dishes in the top-even lifting a lid-then you take out the clean dishes from a drawer below--they weren't wrapped though. The "dishwasher" looked something like her clothes washer-guess could be called a combo machine-washes and dries-then folds and wraps the clothes. Also love the dust spewing "vacuum cleaner" in the Munsters.
I purchased Season 2 Vol.1 last week also. Look for Season 2 Vol. 2 of LIS to come out on Nov. 30th. I am usually there the first day it is out in stores.
The Munster's vacuum is too funny. If you noticed the episode of its first appearance, you will see that dust is even coming out the seams of the vacuum cleaner and not just the hose.
If I remember that episode of the Munsters right..........
Hi,
Was that not a late 40's Westnghouse tank type vacuum? I have seen that episode only three times in 27 years and when I realize that it IS the episode... I can never get a tape ready fast enough to get it. It's either that, or possibly an Apex cylinder from the period.
Interesting to note, in 1949 when Air-Way Electric nee' Air-Way Sanitizor today, was heavily advertising it's new Model 66, they tapped A un masked ( as Lilly Munster) and younger looking Yvonne De-Carlo to do an advert for the current movie she was starring in. And how the current Air-Way was starring in "modern homes the world over".
Advertising back then was so outlandish and funny.....
The Munster's vacuum cleaner is a Sears Kenmore Commander. In order for them to have the dust blow out, it has to go through the motor. Listen to the motor. It sounds bad.
I am going to have to watch those episodes when the vac is being used-In the times I have seen it-you get a glimpse of it and its sound is covered by the dialog and music.I remember most when they show a closeup of Lily using it to "dust" the fireplace and they show her just holding the hose and attachment end-with no attachments on it.-Just the dirt spewing out.I now onder how many "vacs" they went thru in the fiming of the series if the dirt ends up going thru the motor.
