Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

"Coasting down from spin and filling for the rinse"

What a great shot--the de facto or faux spray rinse.

You call the 65 a brute. Is it because of the faster spin wind-up or because she has a few battle scars?

The blue specked tubs are my favorites, either way.

Thanks for the colorful dramatic pix, Joel. Sorry. I now know that you're Joe, but you've been Joel in my head forever. Old habits die hard. ;->

Beautiful pixs Joel! I love your new window lid too. I really like the Rollermatics.

You know,

...they may have had their faults and they may not have been among the most capacious washers in their day, but I still think Frigidaires like yours with their multi-tinted blue "Jet-Action" agitators and their small but massive washbaskets are among the coolest machines ever built.

I call the '65 the Brute, because of it's aggressive nature, it's louder and less gracious than the Rapidry machine, it certainly does have it's battle scars around the tub lip as it was used in very rusty water, the inlet screens were clogged with rust when I got it. I love how loudly it slaps water against the outer tub when it's ramping up to spin, and it's more prone to vibrations than the Rapidry, especially if you forget to load it the "Frigidaire Way"

I'm really surprised how much they hold, more than it would appear they do. I had 6 pairs of pants going in the Rapidry, and 14 shirts in the '65.

I've been thinking I'd like to have a '55 Unimatic to go with the '55 Filtrator, they're such a pretty design. I've shyed away because of how hard everyone says they are to work on, but since I've been to Frigidaire Hell with the Rapidry, and done a pump job and minor roller work on the '65 I think I could do anything I need to with enough time and patience.

Solinoid Cycle Change

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think WP/KM is the only make that ever had a perf tub with a one-way drive motor and tranny, with solinoid-controlled cycle changes. Every other perf tub I know changes from agitation to spin via reversing motor (sadly, even the later WP/KM). Solinoid changes seemed to be more popular with solid tubs (which made WP/KM unique during their belt-drive days).

Personally, when it comes to WP, I like the old "woo-woo-woo-woo" better than today's "thunka-thunka-thunka-thunka."

I also can only fantasize what it would have been like if WP ever had a solid tub. Would it have actually gone to lengths to create a neutral drain somehow? Maybe a mechanical straw would shoot into the tub after agitation period ends! LOL!

Joe, thanks for all the pictures of your machines, Your Frigidaires are well taken care of. Thanks again arthur/alr2903

SOLID TUB WITH NEUTRAL DRAIN

Blackstones first three automatics all through the1950s had solid tubs with neutral drain. they were the models 150-250-350 the bendix rubber tub washers would also be neutral drain although they didn't spin at all they sucked the water out the bottom pulling the tub in against the clothes.

And of course, the requisite wild agitation shot

Have a nice luncheon, everyone! Throw your soiled napkins into the insane Blackstone Turbulence ;-> YAY
