Firstly a big thankyou to Gary.

Some of you may remember that, before Hoovermatic 3174 and Keymatic 3243H, a rather rare dryer found its way to a tip down in Cornwall.

Thankfully a certain 'electron1100' was there to save the machine from a date with the shredder and he took it home.

Unfortunately, what with other more important machines turning up, the dryer had to be got rid of to release the room.

Arrangements were then put in place to pass on the machine to another safe home and, via trip from Saltash to Cardiff and Cardiff to Crewe, the machine reached its new home last weekend.

From recollections of when it was first saved, the machine was one of the prototype machines handed out to employees for evaluation (do correct me if I am wrong gary). That would roughly date it to 1972/73, when the entire series of drop down Creda's was first introduced.

The series comprised of the :

TD275 compact, which had been introduced in the late 60's under the Parnall name.
TD400 full size, which was a new machine (later to become the 'Autodry').
&
TD400A Sensamatic, which was a major step change in dryer mechanics and which would not be adopted by another manufacturer (to the best of my knowledge) until the late 70's.

The Reversamat would not be introduced until the range was restyled in the late 1970's.

So, a big thankyou to Gary for enabling myself and Rob to become guardians of his Creda TD400A Sensamatic.....

The machine is in very sound external condition and the facia is a delight to look at, being that little bit different from the normal Creda drop down dryer...

There is some paint flaking behind the door, which we will have to sort out by somehow reattaching the loose paint to the metal and re-enamelling the other bare patches.

4-26-2009-11-20-27--matchboxpaul.jpg

The paint finish on the cabinet does appear to be thin. Current thinkings are that, with this probably being a pre-production machine, the finish wasn't upto the standard of the production run of machines. As such, we will have to be careful as to what is placed on top of it.

The air scoop in the door.

This is over said recess and funnels a small amount of expelled air from the front vent, back into (sort off) the dryer and passes it over the sensor.

The temperature of the air being passed ovet the sensor, dictates whether the machine cuts off the heat or carries on heating.

Or something like that anyway - Mathew will be able to correct all my inaccuracies. I so wish I was more technically minded...

left hand side of the facia, showing the neon light, which is on when the machine is heating and which goes out when the heat is cut off...

4-26-2009-11-30-56--matchboxpaul.jpg

and finally, the right hand part of the facia, showing the programmer.

Cant call this a timer as it is the control to a variable thermostat and does not move or tick!

Start point is 'A' with a - and + either side...

4-26-2009-11-33-43--matchboxpaul.jpg

Showing the entire programme range from 'A' through 'F'.

The programmer turns backwards and forwards through only about a third of the circumference of the dial...

So once again, thankyou Gary for enabling us to care for the machine. rest assured it has gone to a good home and will be well cared for.

I took the machine over to store yesterday and it is now sat a top the Ariston.

At a convenient point I will have a small photoshoot of the Sensamatic with its smaller sibling the TD275 Compact.

All thats needed to complete the line up is the standard TD400, ironically the one which scared me witless as a kid due to an Aunt and Uncle having one with shot to pieces bearings.
You would turn it on and the reverberations through the cabinet would result in loud bangings.
Put me off it, I can tell you.

Thanks again Gary.

Thanks also are due to Mathew for, as well as being an all round top bloke, he collected the Sensamatic from Saltash and brought it up to Crewe.

He also brought with him an all important addition to our Hoover ecologic, which some of you will remember was missing something quite important when myself and Rob bought it....

4-26-2009-11-52-2--matchboxpaul.jpg

Thats better!

The machine is now proudly displaying a Hoover roundel again.

makes all the difference and is a vast improvement on the blank space that was there previously...

A really smart looking machine, that could find its way into my parents kitchen one day (unless we acquire an almond/natural linen hotpoint). They wont entertain a black, grey or silver washing machine and weren't that impressed at the thought ow a white machine, when they came to replace the almond 95452.

Now that Hotpoint have discontinued Natural linen, I think they will face a bit of a problem when the WF740 gives up the ghost...

and next to an earlier Hoover product, from the previous decade.

The ecologic is 1992, whilst the electron is 1986...

So thanks to Mathew too, for collecting and delivering the dryer to us, and for the massive visual improvement that you were able to give the ecologic.

Whilst Mathew was oop north we invaded Chester, where some surgery was performed on a Hoover Keymatic!
Pics to come shortly.

Cheers again to Gary and Mathew.
Regards
Paul & Rob

Crikey

Im amazed at the pictures, not had a look at them this week with all thats going on at work.

It just looks fab.
To think they were made just 20 miles away , the factory in Blythe Bridge is tucked well away from the main road, you just wouldnt believe such a tidy quiet place could harbour the workings of a domestic appliance factory.

Goes to show how much pride everyone had and the focus on quality all those years ago.

Thanks again guys, its so mice to be able to have this in the collection. Sorts out the problems of not having a matching dryer to any particular machine in a way,

Cheers Mathew and Gary!

Creda Dryer

Hey Paul

It is no problem i am glad that you like it, I am only too glad to be able to bring odd bits to this group, it gives me great satisfaction. and also the fact that you Paul are very organised in such a way that you can accomodate these machines

In the past i have at times had a chrisis of conscience over bits that have come in, but i dont wanna talk about that

And Mathew is the star engineer who got it working, i nipped off to get some pasties and tea, when i got back there it was cover off and Mathew stood by it grinning, he then pointed to the offending push on connector.......i nearly fell over with the shock, i thought it would be something serious........

Now as for the Electra dryer............:-)

A3008 :-)

One little question whats the dryer with a chrome door next to the creda dryer?

Hi Paul.
Nice Creda driers and an old Ariston washer I see there.
I miss those square door Hoovers though -
I remember one of my friends having a Caravell automatic in the 80's.
Oh ,and a Colston automatic -mid 70's with big chunky chrome dials and door. Love em and miss em.
Regards.
Louis.

Odd bits....!

Your mere presence brings more than enough to the group Gary.

Really - thankyou for the Creda.
Takes pride of place amongst the other bits and bobs.

It hasnt been afforded a clean yet, so we will have to pencil that in for over the summer months.

Did a couple of loads in it and Rob was impressed by how quickly it ploughed through loads, although it takes a bit of getting your head round having to programme it (anyone got the instruction manual!).

Indeed - Mathew is the god of mechanical repairs and a truly great guy to boot. Am seeing him this weekend for a bit of appliance tinkering.

Below is a piccy of the terminal which had come adrift....

and finally:

Re:A3008.......still have the pictures of the surgery performed on Mike's machine to post.
Will get round to that sometime next week!

That dryer with the chrome door is the Hoover D6018 Dryer De Luxe. A wonderful looking dryer in truly superb condition. Piccy posted below....

Hi Louis.

Agree whole heartedly.
The old Square door hoovers eh! Ran for 30 odd years - a much missed style, though whether it would be acceptable today to Jo and Jemima Public could be debated.

I owned, as a kid, the brochures to the silver faciad Colstons. Indeed i made a family friend of my parents a Colston washing machine for her daughters Sindy house!
Involved me destroying one copy - had a duplicate though.
All consigned to the bin.
When i think back, I probably owned (with todays collectors market values) a couple of thousand poundes worth of late 1970s and early to mid 1980s brochures and copies of Kays, Great Universal and John Moores catalogues.
Ah well.

Caravell's - only piccy i have is of the DL500 (see below), courtesy of Mathew.

ta ta for now.
Cheers
Paul

Paul

I to had lots of brochures and old catalouges when I was growing up, my Mum mad me get rid of them when we moved up to scotland when I was 14, I was gutted!

The people who lived on the farm up the road from us had a Caravell machine, I think it was around 1984/85. It had a brown facia, very small programme dial, half load button, reduced spin ( I think) and on/off button. It also had a huge ( for the time ) brown door. Due to chronic overloading the machine only just made it past one year old.
