Speed Queen ADG30RGS Dryer not shutting off.

This will be hard to explain, but when you set the temp dial to DELICATE then use the auto dry feature under AUTOMATIC REGULAR / DELICATE, i usually select the LESS DRY it will run for hours and never advance. If you do not have cloths in it, then it will advance and shut off just fine.

Conversely, if I use timed dry, it will advance perfect.

So I swapped the timers from another identical 2007 model year dryer, and the problem stays only with this dryer. It is not the timer.

The 2007 model is quite a bit hotter, and I beleive it is the gas valve setting, but I do not have guages to verify. I am stumped. What makes the timer advance, and why when there is not cloths it will work, but when loaded it will not?

Until the experts chime in, I'd guess on your temp switch.

These are thermostatic controlled sensor dryers. There is a sensor on the exhaust I think that triggers once the blown out air reaches a certain temperature, allowing the timer to advance.
If the sensor never triggers, the timer dosen't advance.
So, probably, you're dryer somehow manages not to put out enough heat to trigger the sensor on delicate heat with laundry in it, however it does when empty.

So, if laundry actually dries on delicate heat and dosen't stay damp, and it's not a timer fault, maybe the temp switch got so "in accurate" that it won't trigger with laundry loaded.

Correct on the array of temp switches...I don't know about speed queens, but Whirlpool/Kenmore also heat the high temp thermal for different cycles.
You could have that burnt out, if its made that way.

Once again, don't know about the SQ, but now almost all temp switches/fuses are replaced together when servicing theses units...parts being cheaper trump the labor in the equation.

Did this just begin to happen? Did it ever work properly? Natural Gas or Propane? Perhaps the wrong orifice?

Thermostatic autodry has the timer tied to the operating thermostat in the blower housing.  The timer does not run when the heat source is on (target air temperature not reached).  The heat source (electric element or gas burner) cycles off when the target temperature is reached (Delicate on the Fabric Selector for low temp or Perm Press/Regular for high temp) and the timer runs.  The heat cycles back on when the air temp drops 25°F-ish and the timer turns off again.  Alternating periods of heat-on/timer-off and heat-off/timer-on repeat until the timer runs out to the cool down.  Drying time varies depending how long it takes to initially heat and maintain heat for a given load (load size, fabric weight, and residual moisture from higher or lower washer spin speed, and selected dryer temperature).

Operating the dryer in an unheated space in cold winter weather or a hot/uncooled area during summer weather can have an affect on autodry performance.

Any malfunction that prevents the target air temperature from being reached will prevent the timer from advancing ... bad thermostat, bad heating element or erratic gas burner, obstructed airflow causing the heat source to short-cycle on overheat protection.

I had this same exact problem with my Huebsch gas dryer. It ran forever on an auto dry cycle, but timed dry worked fine. This was after 2 years of normal operation.

The service tech replaced the timer and the thermostat. That fixed the problem.

I guess this is a common failure point with these dryers.

UPDATE: Looks like the new thermostat worked. It is a heater and thermostat all in one. The wierd part is the stat was cycling the gas valve OFF and ON properly, maybe at a slightly lower temp than normal, however, the timer was not advancing when the gas valve was off. That is the part that I do not understand.
