I have the recent front load model and the question is this: does the knob need to be switched to the "off" position after you are finished with the machine for the day?

SQ repair man didn't know, I couldn't find it in the manual, vort the H-E double hockey sticks does a temporarily embarrassed millionaire like myself do?

*extra points for identifying the reference I lifted*

no. I have basically the same type of control on my TL and where it stops, at end of cycle, is where it stays until I used it again.

The dial on this model is a selector switch for the electronic control board ... not a timer that advances sequentially through the cycle operation.  Pressing the Start button triggers the electronic board to run the selected cycle.  The dial remains on the last-selected cycle when done.

The user guide describes the Off position as a "cancel" function to turn the machine off mid-cycle for purpose of aborting the operation, or to add more clothes after a cycle is started (then Start the desired cycle again).
