Steam table or double boiler with Rival hot pot

I found that the plastic hot pots you can buy from brands like Rival, Proctor Silex, and others can make a steam table. I found I can put a little water in the bottom and a bowl in the top and I have a mini steam table or a double boiler. Pyrex bowls will fit but I am not sure if it could damage the finish. The only issue is the spout can leak steam.
