Thanks John for the motor. Thanks Steve for all the help and about the new seals. Thanks Robert about using cork for the gaskets, worked great! And thanks Sandy for rallying the troops and getting this project moving!!

She is back up and running beautifully because of this site and all the knowledge that comes from its members!!!!

YAY!

Joe:

I am SO HAPPY that this worked out well for you! I told you it would.

Now you have the perfect 1949 dishwasher for your vintage kitchen, as you should have.

Pics soon, I hope?

Yes Pictures Soon!

But first it is time to celebrate with a couple of shots of Jack Daniel's.

Thanks Sandy!!!

Joe

Congrats!

On the revival! Knew it was a long shot to get everything but glad to have been of help to you. Hearing success stories like yours makes all of this AW stuff all the more worth it.

Wonderful news!

I followed the time line of your saga and I know there were moments of great discouragement. It makes this particularly sweet. And what a cool machine!

Those old KA's can really get under your skin. I don't know what I'll do when (if?) the family KDS 55 Superba fails. I truly appreciate it and watch it at work every time we run it. Your story makes me want to go earlier in the models rather than later.

I'm sure it gives you a warm feeling to run it!

Sorta like this-

Joe-
Your KD-10 looks phenomenal! You would never know that it is as old as it is.

I'm sure that you're elated that it's back up and running. Congratulations on your success. Hopefully you'll get many, many years of use out of her.

If it's possible, I'm sure others as well as myself would love to see what your baby looks like when you have it loaded up and ready to run. Those racks are an interesting set-up. A pic or two would be great!

Lastly- How long does it take for that DW to complete a cycle?

Have a Great Day!
Rick

I know what you mean!!!

Every time I run this machine I watch it as well. I love the sounds it make and the mechanical timer is very cool when it advances to another cycle.

Priceless!!!!

Kitchenaid KD 10 Dishwasher

These are truly amazingly overbuilt machines, to anyone that likes the later KAs if you ever tore a KD-10 apart you would realize just what an amazing well built machine these 10s were.

I parted out 3 KD 10s last year [ one was where Joe's motor came from ] and after taking these machines apart I came away feeling that KA should have just quit making DWs after the KD-10, the machine is just that much superior to any KA that that followed.

I think that this is also the way many Maytag fans feel about the Maytag's grey ghost wringer washers, again nothing they built after the GG was anywhere as well built.

Loaded

I will load it up and take some more pictures before I run it. It does an amazing job on cleaning dishing. I know that this 1949 KD-10 dishwasher washes better than any dishwasher that I have ever had before!!!

" . . . washes better . . . "

And faster!  They're practically done before you've walked out of the room!

What a beautiful job of reviving a beautiful machine!  Have fun using it!

Stunning.

Absolutely Stunning! It's difficult for me to describe the feeling I get when I see something like this--something so lovingly designed and crafted-- built the way things SHOULD be built.

And honors to you for equally lovingly bringing it back to life.
