Got a few Sunbeam mixers, too many in fact and am planning on gifting one to a relative who is mixerless.  Got a nice stainless MMB model from the 70's, mainly because Kelly recommended it for folding ingredients into egg whites using dough hooks, but find I prefer to do it by hand.  Anyway the mixer tops out a 9 on the dial and does not increase speed over that.  I recall there was a fix for that but can't find it in any of my saved links.

Any suggestions?  Hoping to get the unit out in a few weeks, want it running in top shape, should last for a few more decades.

speed control

In the 1940/1850's models you take off the speed control dial and there was a screw you could then turn to change the speed range. I have never looked on my late seventies model, it might be there. So you may want to give it a try.
