Philips Steam Iron, Mixer & Freezers

The fridge part of the combo fridge freezer looks incredibly high, even for me and I am 6ft 4in tall!

Louis, what was the washer brand in the 1969 commercial next to the drying cabinet as well as the washer in the 1972 commercial? I thought the 1969 kitchen wasa quite unctional and nice, it even appeared to have a dishasher in it.

Bob, those washers are Asea Skandia machines, the brand that devellopped into Asko.

That's exactly the vacuum we had at my parents' home, really built like a tank, with a chassis made of die-cast aluminium

Same kitchen, but this commercial is about the appliances. Brand is Kockums. The dishwasher looks like a Husqvarna.

That cookstove is cool--never have seen the vertical separator. It actually looks like a North American stove width-wise.

Yeah, that range looks wide. I've never actually seen a coil cooktop in Scandinavia - only solid plates (dang, can't remember the name right now) or halogen - show's how long it's been since I was there. That fridge is pretty much the standard size there. And boy did they go for the trendy colors and dark edges. I've got to find some of the dark green and poppy that there popular.

I think that the mid-70's is when the cooktop and wall oven started being more and more popular - but the 90's a wall oven and microwave were pretty much standard in new construction. Not so much in apartments, but it was common.

I think I’ve seen a coil cooktop before in one of the commercials but indeed the solid burners were the standard just like in Germany and the Netherlands.

Found this Asea washing machine for sale on a Norwegian auction site. It hasn't been used in a long time hence the low price. Because it's far away I thought it was better to post it here with all the other Scandinavian material.

Two hundred kronor is practically free! OK, exaggerating a bit there. But still cheap.

When I lived in Norway as a kid our washer broke and the LL bought a new Zanussi with a funky formica top. Front loader obviously.

Right below it was an English Electric washing machine which was manufactured in Canada!

That English Electric was manufactured by John Inglis co. limited from Toronto. Is that machine related to the Whirlpool Inglis then?

Wash And Rinse

The EE machine is certainly a strange one. Compared to the UK manufactured version much of the machine has been reversed, note the controls and I don't recall ever seeing a power wringer with the drive post on the right hand side of the machine - the picture does not appear to be reversed as the English Electric wording appears correctly. The wringer appears different from the UK version but that is no surprise as it would have been sourced from Canada. I wonder why it was imported from Canada rather than the UK, it was even manufactured with European voltage components and a heater - very strange for a US or Canada manufacturer.

English Electric had a long association with Westinghouse rather than Whirlpool manufacturing FL automatics based on the Spacemates and later Westinghouse machines.

Funny seeing it reversed and the wringer mechanism is rounded not squared like ours, probably probably built under license by John Inglis & Co , Toronto. Great to see these washers around the world !!
