Finally found it

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I finally found the Swedish telephonic laundry room reservation system - and punch cards!

Ted had a Husqvarna riding lawn mower that he loved until a tree blew over in a storm about 3 years ago and destroyed his garage. The John Deere that was located in another part of the garage was spared. Service for Husqvarna isn't nearly as convenient here as it is/was in Alabama so the John Deere will suit our needs when he moves here.

Loved that use of the telephone system (Ericsson, natch) to simplify washday. Visited Stockholm about 25 years ago and had a neat visit to their telecom museum. The structure of the telecom industry in most of the rest of the world is different than in North America, but (particularly in Scandinavia) wasn't deficient or bad, just different. Telecoms were often nationalized (the Post-Telegraph-Telephone or PTT was the structure) and in wealthy countries teledensity wasn't that different than in North America.

If I remember correctly, the telephone system was not part of the postal system in Sweden. They also were an early adopter of the telephone (by world standards) and had a similar penetration/density of subscribers to the US by the 1920's iirc - I've seen the figures, but it was a long time ago and can't remember where. I know that Sweden is generally the test market in Europe for electronics (such as stereo systems, phones, etc).
