Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have too many favorites...

...here's another, the beautiful 1963 Chrysler Imperial convertible that Doris Day drove through the car wash and inadvertently put the top down in "Move Over Darling. Sorry, I couldn't find a full shot of the car but you get the idea.

Relax, I'm going to bed after this one...

I loved the 1958 Chevrolet convertible that James Garner "parked" in the swimming pool in "The Thrill Of It All"...wife Beverly Boyer (Doris Day) forgot to mention the pool...which by the way was dug, constructed and filled all in one day courtesy of her employer the Happy Soap Company.

The 1968 Coupe de Ville in "Slaughterhouse Five"

Certainly one of the most memorable cars for me .

Here's a "before" shot as it races toward its demise.  A far more jaw-dropping sequence than the S.F. car chase in Bullitt.

The link contains shots of the last hundred feet or so, up to and including final impact.

I was surprised not to find a clip on line with this (Absolutely no one will be admitted during the) astoundingly awesome single vehicle (well, OK, there was collateral damage along the way) demolition derby.  Definitely worth watching if you've never seen it.

Polyester . . .

My favorite movie of all time! Francine Fishpaw (Divine) is an ordinary Baltimore housewife with a cheating husband, two deranged teenage children, and a best friend named Cuddles. Cuddles (Edith Massey) is of questionable mental capacity but has inherited money and travels around town in a '71 or '72 Fleetwood 75 limo driven by her German chauffeur Heinz. In the scene below Francine confides to Cuddles that she's found a receipt for the White Gables Motel in Elmer's clothes; Cuddles offers to go check it out. She buzzes Heinz who is busy doing laundry at the Laundromat - are those Raytheon Speed Queen dryers?

They arrive at the White Gables in the nick of time to see Elmer and his secretary Sandra (another fine performance by Mink Stole) arrive in Elmer's '79 Eldorado. John Waters has always liked to cast Cadillacs in his movies, although in one of his books he mentions preferring a dark colored Buick for himself.

a few i haven't seen mentioned yet:
-"corvette summer"'vette-ghastly,but was cool in the mid '70s LOL
-"vanishing point" challenger
-"two lane black top"'55 chevy-i think i heard once this car was modified into the
'55 chevy in"american graffiti"after it's two lane blacktop duty.

Hey Ultramatic...did you ever notice....

on Inger Stevens 59 Merc from The Twilight Zone episode the prop folks took out the vent window/post for the scenes where Inger was driving as it would have been in the way? That gave me a double take when I first saw the episode.

I have a thing for 7 of 9 Keith...

@twintubdexter

Long Long Trailer=my favorite movie ever!

Just recently learned about the car swap for the mountain pass scene. Seems they needed the Lincoln's bigger engine to do the job.

I must have watched this movie over 100 times and never noticed that!

and another Lucy/Desi vehicle...

...the very nice 1955 Pontiac Starchief convertible the Ricardo's drove cross-country, sometimes with and sometimes without a windshield. I read where General Motors gave each of the writers the same car.

tracking down Aunt Sally and her elusive pralines...

The '53 Lincoln engine wasn't just larger than the '53 Mercury engine, it was much more modern. '53 was the last year for American production of the old Ford flathead V8 introduced in '32.  By '53 it was pretty outdated, although Simca made it in France through '61. Lincoln introduced a new overhead valve V8 for '52 which was quite a good performer, thus ensuring that in '52 and '53 Lincolns were much more powerful than Mercurys. In '54 Mercury and Ford got their first overhead valve V8s, not as large as the Lincoln engine but of similar modern design.
