My Whirlpool DD bit it a couple of weeks back. It's a motor coupler which could have been easily replaced, but it's also starting to have neutral drain problems.

I was on the Home Depot site, and I found a deal on one of their Admiral machines. I managed to get it, and all the hardware for $348, free delivery.

I truly wanted a Speed Queen, but right now they're out of my budget. I think it will probably give me decent service like the last Whirlpool did.

So wish me luck....new appliance coming! :)

Mike, like you, I wanted a Speed Queen to replace my Whirlpool that had the same problems yours did. Unfortunately, it wasn't in my budget, either. However, I'm glad to hear you stuck with a Whirlpool product. The company's product line seems to be well made and a good value for the most part. It's an American company, employs lots of union-scale workers, and uses more American-made components than many of the other appliance manufacturers.

I considered an Admiral model when I bought the new Whirlpool at a local independent appliance dealer. The salesman stated it was the same washer in components and build quality as the Whirlpool, just with a different console. But, the Whirlpool was a closeout of last year's model so I bought it instead.

Treat your machine right, which I'm sure you will, and it should last a reasonable amount of time. Let me know how it works; I'd be interested in hearing about it. Thanks!

Rob

Rob,

I think they are reasonably well made too, and I wanted to give my money to someone that provides jobs here as well.

I'm sure it won't be a surprise (so many machines are Whirlpool DD now). I'm interested in how dumbed down the water temperatures are, but I'm sure I can make it work.

I'll keep you posted.

According to the label...

According to the label on the inside of the door on my new FL Duet WFW9150WW it was made in Mexico! Does the Whirlpool company assemble any appliances in the U.S. anymore?

I thought....

....that Whirlpool assembled their appliances here, at least their T/L machines. I'll look when I get mine and report back.

there are some dd top loaders and dryers made in usa but not for long, whirlpool annonced it is closing its plant in the usa and going to mexico.

It's here....

....and working on my 4th load of backed up laundry.

I have to admit, I like it as far as bare bones machines. It still has the Maytag Dependable Care era style dials, and reminds me of the old Fabricmatic machines on Gentle. The intermittent agitate and spin is something I haven't seen in a long while. Plus it has decent tub capacity, and 4 water levels along with all the basic cycles.

Of course, it's been adjusted to meet new government energy efficiency requirements. Hot is warm, warm is cool, cool is cold and cold is frigid.

Still, it's a nice basic machine, and it beats the laundromat or hand washing (or schlepping everything out to the workshop and running them thru icy cold water in the Maytag wringer). I like it better than my old Frigidaire top loader, if not as well as my old Filter Flo. Pretty decent deal considering it was less than $350 delivered and set up.

(Of course, now it's on sale for $259 LOL--oh well....it's still a good value)

yes $259

"(Of course, now it's on sale for $259 LOL--oh well....it's still a good value)"

I was just going to comment that you paid way to much. I got mine for $279+ a few months ago, and was in HD today and saw it was now $259.

I actually prefer the more stodgy and old fashioned appearance of the Roper control console (at Lowes), but the Admiral price is hard to beat.

p.s. I've been meaning to eventually post pics of mine, but maybe you'll beat me to it.

Post your pics please....

....when my ex-partner left, he took the digital camera. It's going to be a while before I get another one.

Toploader1984, will that mean the end of the Wonderful 29" wide whirlpool dryer? If so, i will have to invest some of my tax return sooner than i planned. alr2903

I believe toploader is confusing a refrigerator plant in Evansville, Indiana, which is closing, with the washing machine plant in Clyde, Ohio and dryer plant in Marion, Ohio.

Here's a recent article.

Thank you, Supersuds. Like eveyone else i am trying to be thrifty, right now. alr2903

Mike, I'm glad you like your new washer. Hope to see pictures of your or spookiness' machine. I'm curious to see which model it is. It may be the one I was looking at before I bought the Whirlpool.

I know there is plenty of negativity toward Whirlpool on here and out and about, but all my appliances except the stove are Whirlpool brand. They have been very reliable and if repair has been needed, it has been minor. Replacement parts are readily available, well constructed, and mostly made in the United States. Just think of all the jobs the Whirlpool FSP parts industry maintains aside from appliance manufacturing! I'll continue to support the company and my local appliance dealer which supplies many of the Whirlpool brands like Amana, Estate, Maytag, and Whirlpool.

All Whirlpool U.S. family brands TL's are still made in U.S.(except for that World Washer, apt size thing, which was made in Mexico but was moved to Brazil.

All Whirlpool family brands front loader washers & SOME matching dryers come from various countries outside the U.S.

Only plans for Mexico currently are refrigerators, which was over quoted by the media as to its size and number of employees it would have since Whirlpool just took over Woods Freezer Company in Canada which Whirlpool recently reopened and rehired the former Woods Inc. employees.

Yep....that's the one! :)

I put it through a workout last night too. I had almost three weeks of laundry backed up.
