Must be a great living being a dentist! I would love a red convertible! My grandpas friend was pointing out some of the other cars...
"that one over there is all original, its valued at around $110,000... "this one here, around $55k to $75K"... That one around $90,000"
collecting old Early birds sure is an expensive hobby. Haha. Ill stick to my later Tbirds like our 61 bullet, and other ford models. Not quite as much demand!
It puts the price tag on a 1955 corvette to shame!

for a pink-hater like me...
...that car is not too bad, but I am one of those guys that never liked those little Thunderbirds...just not ever. They are way too common and it seems that every single one that could have been restored has been resurrected. And if you've never been in one then you're in for a surprise of sorts. There isn't a lot of room between the steering wheel and a "normal" stomach although Miss Scarlet would be comfortable provided Mammy pulled her corset tight enough. The steering wheel on all 57's telescopes in and out of the dash a few inches but it's not much help. And put that "gee that's so neat" porthole top on (which weighs a ton) and it's very difficult to get in and out of. Worse, the car becomes very claustrophobic and that round window makes you feel like your on your way to visit Titanic in one of those old bathysphere things. And drive one of 57's for a real treat! That car handles like a big Eggo frozen waffle with wheels...it is terrible...and yes I know it's old school. I love Thunderbirds, just not the 55 thru 57.
About 7 years ago my neighbor, an elderly retired attorney, made me an offer on his car that I couldn't refuse since he could no longer drive. He purchased the little car new when he lived in Minnesota. I sort of regreted it since day 1. I had the engine removed and rebuilt along with the brake lines which was pricey to say the least. When I complained to my mechanic he said "don't you know that a classic car is a money pit?"...no I did not. My neighbor died about 3 years ago and the car may be haunted, he was not a very nice person. The only things good about the car is that there's room for it in my garage and the insurance is very cheap. And one other redeeming thing is that you can get just about any part for these cars remanufactured out of 3 catalogs...no visiting junkyards or searching eBay. There was an optional luggage valise available that matched the plaid fabric in the trunk...you can even get that! The only thing I've never seen offered is the optional Ford electric shaver.
This car is perpetually for sale if anyone is ever interested...I'd be willing to throw in a blonde wig if you want to play Susanne Sommers in American Grafiti.

It is very true on what you say. The Thunderbird was ment to compete with the Vette, but it never came close. Part of the reason they ditched the sports car influence, in favor of a "new kind of sports car" -sedan.

1957 was Ford's best year ever. They even outsold Chevy, though the 57 Chevy is more widely regarded as a classic. Both 58s were kinda 'fmeh'. Then both 59s pretty sharp. Kinda like Star Trek movies.... every other one.
