That must be one of the prettiest sets of Tags I've every seen. Hope they are running in top notch condition. It would be a shame if something were to go wrong. Congrats, Don. Would love to see them in person sometime.

The only thing that could be better would be an electric dryer. I'm concerned that these front seals are NOL. Mark suggested that new seals might be fashioned after the old ones, if one could find the materials. I bet if I had the materials and a new one to examine, I could run up one up on my Singer 401A with a # 18 needle. Haven't seen one though, so I don't know what would be involved. Where does one obtain heat resistant wool?

I wonder if a small fan (like a computer fan) could be mounted inside the cabinet some how to exhaust the combustion fumes from the standing pilot light? I use a fan like this to blow cool air over my cable box. Mark's idea to place that little blue light behind that flame emblem on the control panel was so cool.

Don, have these machines been serviced? If so, what was the condition of the TDG806's front seal?

Don and Mark, if I'm ever in the Minneapolis I love to meet you both.

To address a few of the issues raised above:

To my knowledge, these models were produced in turquoise for approximately 18 months. They were introduced in January of 1966 and it seems to me that turquoise was abandoned for "Spanish Avocado" in July of 1967.

This set of machines has a curious history in that they are essentially NOS. They were purchased in 1967 to be installed in an engaged couple's new home. The engagement was broken and somehow they ended up in storage for about 40 years. As far as I know, Don was the first person to actually use them after he acquired them a number of years ago. He used them for a few months and then rotated them out of use for a while. Other than needing a new pair or hinge balls and motor glides on the washing machine, there has been no need of service. It is frankly rather eerie to look inside of the gas dryer and see it so pristine!

HOH Gas DRyers

WOW Don those look Great, I remember when you got those, if I remember correctly when you saw them listed on E bay you said you hit the Buy IT Now button so hard and fast and without a 2nd thought that you thought your keyboard would break.

Brain I think it would be fairly easy to make new front felt seals for these dryers and in fact with your excellent attention to detail I think you could easily improve on MTs seals. You could use the old ones for a pattern  or I still have some NOS ones that I got from Larry in Ohio the other year. [ he may have more ? ]

The best thing to do about the constant burning pilot light is to either turn it off between wash days or as Ricker and I have done is convert the dryer to electric ignition. It is also not that difficult to convert a HOH gas dryer or most gas dryers to electric if you can find a similar donner machine. Although I am usually converting older electric dryers to Gas as I feel that not only is it a huge waste of money to run an electric dryer but doing so adds to much to climate change.

Don, those are just beautiful! I have not seen this set of yours for awhile. I do not know of any other of the newer style console centre dial Maytag set in this colour. Enjoy them!!

I also second everyones comment!

These are beautiful! Turquoise is a beauty colour for these machines, I have never seen it before until now! The colour makes the machines look really sharp. I find its the unusual colours on MTs that really make them look the best, like white, turquoise, etc...

Thank you for sharing, and enjoy your washing!
